OAKS FALL TO 1-3 IN TOURNAMENT FAIRFIELD, Calif. (July 3, 2009) - Fair Oaks Post 383 dropped both its games yesterday in the WABF Tournament in Fairfield to fall to 1-3 in the Round-Robin portion of the tournament. The Oaks lost to San Mateo 5-2 and B&L Properties 4-2. This should give them the #3 Seed out of the tournament's Blue Division, although that is dependent on what winless Santa Rosa does tonight against B&L. Due to the screwy nature of the tournament rules, Fair Oaks could find themselves playing at 10 a.m. or 4 p.m. on Saturday. Vacaville has a lock on the 10 a.m. game no matter how they finish. They appear to be headed toward the #1 or #2 Seed in the Red Division, with Yolo battling for the other spot. If Vacaville finishes #2 and the Oaks remain #3, the teams will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday. If Vacaville finishes #1, they would move from the scheduled 4 p.m. game to 10 a.m., and the Oaks would fall into the 4 p.m. slot against (probably) Yolo.
OAKS SPLIT OPENING GAMES FAIRFIELD, Calif. (June 30, 2009) - Fair Oaks Post 383 split its opening games of the 2009 W.A.B.F. tournament in Fairfield on Tuesday, as the Oaks beat Santa Rosa 16-1 in their first game and lost to Vacaville 10-6 in the second game. The first game was highlighted by a grand slam home run in the third inning by Cody Osburn and two-hit pitching by Justin Haley. Haley also struck out seven in the 10-Run Rule shortened 5-inning game. Go HERE for the game story. The Oaks get the day off tomorrow and then are back in Fairfield on Thursday for another two games. Fair Oaks faces San Mateo at 4 p.m. and B&L Properties at 7 p.m. All games are played at Laurel Creek Park.
OAKS BEAT AUBURN TWICE, CLAIM REGULAR SEASON D6 TITLE AUBURN, Calif. (June 27, 2009) - Fair Oaks claimed the District 6 regular season title with a pair of wins over Auburn Sunday giving the Oaks the No. 1 seed in the upcoming District 6 Playoffs. Fair Oaks beat Auburn 14-7 in the first game of the doubleheader at James Field and came back for a 23-0 victory in the second game. Oaks manager Jerry Crews approached Auburn's manager after the second inning with the Oaks leading 22-0 to see if Auburn was willing to call the game, but it was decided to go one more inning. After the Oaks loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third and then brought in their 23rd run on a hit batter, Auburn waived the white flag and gave the Oaks the win. Go HERE for the game story.

OAKS ROLL LUCKY SEVEN, BEAT YOLO 1-0 WOODLAND, Calif. (June 24, 2009) - Ordinarily when a team uses seven pitchers it's a sign of trouble. But with Fair Oaks Wednesday night at Clark Field, it was more of a message being sent..."You can't hit us and you can't score on us." Seven pitchers combined on a three-hit shut out as Post 383 defeated Yolo Post 77 for the third time this season. Fair Oaks paraded a different pitcher to the mound in each of the game's seven innings, with Yolo's best chance to score coming in the bottom of the seventh on a one out double. The runner advanced to third on a ground ball to second. But Justin Haley, the last of the Oaks pitchers on the night, bore down and got a called strike three on the next batter to end the game and give the Oaks the win. It was the first time since 2005 that the Oaks have won all three league contests against Yolo. Go HERE for the game story.
OAKS FINISH SWEEP OF MANHART
FAIR OAKS, Calif. (June 21, 2009) - Fair Oaks Post 383 finished its three-game sweep of Manhart with a 6-0 victory at Bella Vista High School on Sunday. Zane Hemphill pitched seven strong innings of shutout ball, with Cody Osburn finishing off Manhart in relief. Andrew Gutierrez homered for the Oaks and Shawn Wheeler and Taylor Sanders each contributed a double in the win. Go HERE for the game story.
