Fair Oaks 12, Citrus Heights 1 (League: 14-3, Overall: 18-4) - June 28 @ Del Campo High
- The Oaks used more conventional means to score their runs in the second game of
their doubleheader against Citrus Heights at Del Campo High School.
After hitting seven home runs in the first game, Fair Oaks
failed to get one over the fence in the second, but still beat up on Citrus Heights,
12-1.
Fair Oaks scored twice in the first as center fielder B.J.
Crone got hit by a pitch to start things off. He scored on shortstop Garrett
Schoenfelder's double to right center and then Schoenfelder scored on designated
hitter Nick Palumbo's hit to left.
In the second, Fair Oaks scored another pair of runs as
third baseman Justin Hoppes got a two out hit to left. Catcher Brad Hicks followed
with a walk and then both runners scored on Crone's double to right. Crone tried for
third on the play, but was tagged out. He stopped in the baseline in front of third,
forcing the third baseman to come after him, giving Hicks time to score.
In the third, another run came home as Schoenfelder led
off with a walk. With right fielder Jason Wilkerson at the plate, a wild pitch sent
Schoenfelder to second and then with two outs, he scored on left fielder Jim Ott's hit
to right field.
Citrus Heights got its only run of the game in the bottom of
the third as pitcher Adam Moshofsky gave up a leadoff double and a two out hit to
bring the score to 5-1.
In the fifth, the Oaks continued their scoring onslaught as
Wilkerson beat the throw on a ball to deep short. With one out, Ott doubled and then
first baseman Russ Beldi walked to load the bases.
Second baseman Rick Patel followed with a grounder to
third that was booted, allowing Wilkerson to score.
Hoppes followed with a hit to right that scored Ott and
Beldi for an 8-1 lead and a new Citrus Heights pitcher.
Hicks drew a walk off the new pitcher to reload the bases
and then Crone hit a ball to shortstop, with no play resulting and Patel scoring.
Schoenfelder walked to force in Hoppes to make it a 10-1
Fair Oaks lead.
Aided by a double play, Moshofsky faced only three
batters in the bottom of the fifth and the Oaks came back to score another run in the
sixth for an 11-1 lead.
With one out, Ott got a hit to left. Beldi popped out and
then Patel drew a walk. Hoppes followed with a hit to center that scored Ott for the
11-1 advantage.
Fair Oaks added its final run of the game in the top of the
seventh as Brandon Olson hit a ball to right that was dropped. Two straight ground
balls to short by Schoenfelder and Bryan Lynch went for errors to load the bases and
then Sean Chopelas' double play ball that went from short to second to first scored
Olson for the 12-1 lead.
Dave Yurchak took the mound in the bottom of the inning
to close the game out for the Fair Oaks victory.
