Fair Oaks 11, Yolo 9 (League: 1-0, Overall: 5-1) - June 5 @ Bella Vista High - After suffering a rainout in their opening game of the regular season, Post 383 faced Yolo at Bella Vista High School for their first league encounter of the year.
Overcoming a 1-0 Yolo lead in the second, Fair Oaks scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings en route to a 11-9 victory.
The Oaks gave starting pitcher Garrett Schoenfelder a 4-1 lead as catcher B.J. Crone led off the third with a walk. Second baseman Jim Ott followed with a hit to right center, sending Crone to third. Schoenfelder aided his own cause with a triple to right that scored both Crone and Ott, and then scored as the throw in went out of play giving the Oaks a 3-1 lead.
First baseman Nick Palumbo followed with a grounder to third, but reached base safely as a high throw resulted in an error. Palumbo took second on the play. With two outs, left fielder Sean Chopelas got a hit to right to score Palumbo to make it a 4-1 game.
Yolo came back with a run in the top of the fourth, but Fair Oaks scored twice more in the bottom of the inning for a 6-2 advantage.
Center fielder Matt Blanford reached base on a shot up the middle that was knocked down, but no play was made. Crone and Ott followed with a walks to load the bases and then Schoenfelder's smash to third scored Blanford for a 5-2 game.
Schoenfelder was thrown out on a steal attempt for the second out of the inning, but Palumbo followed with a hit to left to score Crone and make it 6-2.
Yolo led off the fifth with a hit and a two-run homer to left to bring the score to 8-4 and added another two-run homer in the sixth to trail by a score of 8-6.
Fair Oaks extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth as Ott led off with bad hop hit to left. Schoenfelder then doubled to center to score Ott for a 9-6 lead. Dave Yurchak bunted Schoenfelder to third and Justin Hoppes reached base after getting hit by a pitch.
Chris Rhines then hit a slow roller to second. Hoppes was tagged out, but Rhines reached safely and Schoenfelder scored to make it 10-6.
Bryan Lynch followed with a hit by third base and Adam Moshofsky, who had come in the previous inning to pitch, walked.
With Blanford at the plate, a wild pitch allowed Rhines to come in and score, making it an 11-6 Fair Oaks lead.
Yolo came back in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits, an error, and a walk off reliever Brandon Olson to make it an 11-9 game. Ott came in to pitch with two outs and used only one pitch to record the final out as the batter grounded to short for a force play at second.
