Fair Oaks 8, Citrus Heights 4 (League: 17-4, Overall: 30-7) - July 15 @ Renfree Field - In their second meeting of the District 6 championships, Fair Oaks again defeated Citrus Heights to eliminate their cross-town rival from the tournament.
    It was a close game until the late innings as Fair Oaks scored first and held a slim 2-0 lead in the third inning.
    Center fielder Matt Blanford led off the inning with a hit to second that slipped under the infielder's glove. With one out, catcher B.J. Crone hit a fly to right that was dropped and then Blanford scored as first baseman Jim Ott hit a bouncer to short that went off the glove of the shortstop. Crone tagged and scored on shortstop Garrett Schoenfelder's sacrifice to right to give the Oaks the 2-0 lead.
    A walk and a double off Oaks starter Ryan Reed gave Citrus Heights its first run in the bottom of the inning, however, cutting the Oaks' lead in half.
    Fair Oaks got the run back in the fifth as Crone led off with a double to left center and took third on a wild pitch with Ott at the plate.
    Ott's sacrifice to center allowed Crone to score to give the Oaks a 3-1 lead.
    Fair Oaks finally broke the game open with another pair of runs in the seventh as Schoenfelder started things off with a one out hit. Jason Wilkerson followed with another hit to drive Citrus Heights starter Chad Williams out of the game in favor of Jared Watson.
    Watson tried to make a pickoff to second, but the ball got away from the shortstop allowing both runners to advance. Third baseman Justin Hoppes then hit a ball off the glove of the shortstop to score Schoenfelder and then Rick Patel's sacrifice to center brought home Wilkerson for a 5-1 lead.
    Citrus Heights came right back, however,scoring twice to close the gap to 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
    The Oaks put three more runs on the board in the ninth for an 8-3 lead as Ott led off with a hit to left.
    Ott stole second with Schoenfelder at the plate and went to third on the throw as it went into center field. Schoenfelder's hit to left scored Ott and then with Wilkerson at the plate, Schoenfelder stole second.
    Wilkerson was hit by a pitch and then with Hoppes at the plate, a wild pitch advanced both runners.
    Schoenfelder scored on Hoppes' fly to right and the next batter, Patel, got a hit to center to score Wilkerson and give Fair Oaks an 8-3 lead.
    Schoenfelder came in to pitch the ninth, replacing Ott, who had taken the mound the previous inning. Citrus Heights managed one run in the bottom of the ninth to pull the score to 8-4 with two outs, but Schoenfelder struck out the final batter to end the game and eliminate Citrus Heights from the tournament.
