Solano Concrete 13, Fair Oaks 9 (League: 15-4, Overall: 25-6) - July 7 @ Napa Valley College - Fair Oaks first loss in the Mr. C Tournament of Champions couldn't have come at a worse time as the Oaks were eliminated in the semi-finals by Solano Concrete, 13-9.
Fair Oaks was responsible for its own demise, commiting 10 errors and giving up seven unearned runs to a team it had already beat once in the tournament.
Solano scored four runs in the first inning off Oaks' starter Ryan Reed, but Fair Oaks came back to even the game in the bottom of the inning.
Solano scored single runs in each of the next four innings to take an 8-4 lead, but again, the Oaks came back with three in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 8-7.
That's when things really fell apart as three errors in the sixth gave Solano five unearned runs for a 13-7 lead.
The Oaks scored two more in the bottom of the inning, but were blanked in the seventh as Solano escaped with a sloppy 13-9 win.
Oddly enough, after going undefeated (6-0) in their bracket, the Oaks exited play amongst a semi-final bracket made up of teams entirely from their division.
Because of the format of the tournament, it was conceivable that a team that didn't win any of the regular games could have snuck in and played for the title. Regular tournament wins only gave you points toward the seeding in Sunday's games, in which the Oaks found themselves in the No. 1 spot.
