Fair Oaks 4, El Dorado 1 (League: 17-4, Overall: 27-6) - July 9 @ Bella Vista High School - Fair Oaks clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming District 6 playoffs with its 4-1 victory over visiting El Dorado High School.
Even if Western Division leader Yolo won its final game to give both teams identical 17-4 league records, Fair Oaks would get the nod by virtue of its victory over Yolo in the regular-season.
Fair Oaks will now face No. 8 seed Citrus Heights in the opening round of the double-elimination playoffs at 7:30 p.m. on July 12. The Oaks beat Citrus Heights in two of their three games this season. All games will be played at Renfree Field.
Post 383 looked a little flat in its season finale against El Dorado - no wonder after playing eight games in eight days, seven of which were lengthy road trips to Fairfield and Napa.
The Oaks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as right fielder Jason Wilkerson led off with a hit to right field. Third baseman Justin Hoppes bunted Wilkerson to second and then with two outs, second baseman Ricky Patel's hit to center scored Wilkerson for the lead.
Fair Oaks Manager Don Barney used his pitching freely in the final game, as Jim Ott replaced starter Adam Moshofsky in the top of the third, with Ott promptly sending El Dorado down in order.
The Oaks scored again in the fourth off El Dorado's third pitcher of the day as Wilkerson led off with a double to left. Hoppes again bunted Wilkerson over - this time to third - and he scored as Nick Palumbo hit a ball off the third baseman's glove for a 2-0 lead.
Brandon Olson took the mound in the fifth inning, also getting El Dorado out in order.
The Oaks responded with their final two runs in the bottom of the inning as catcher B.J. Crone got a one out double and then scored ahead of Ott as Ott slammed a two-run homer over the right center field fence.
El Dorado's only run came in the top of the seventh on a solo shot over the right field fence with one out. Olson got the second out on a deep fly to left that backed left fielder Bryan Lynch to the fence and then struck out the next batter to end the game.
