Fair Oaks 3, Citrus Heights 2 (League: 5-4, Overall: 5-5) - June 19 @ Del Campo High -
In sharp contrast to its 11-6 victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader
against Citrus Heights, defense and pitching took over in the second game as Fair
Oaks came from behind for a 3-2 victory.
Citrus Heights got on the board first scoring two runs in
the bottom of the third. Fair Oaks starting pitcher Alex Graham struck out the first two
batters he faced, but then a double to right center followed by a hit brought home one
run and a bad hop single and a dropped fly ball in the outfield led to a 2-0 Citrus
Heights lead.
Both teams went out in order in the fourth, but the Oaks
tied the game in the top of the fifth as third baseman Joe Caffrey hit a one out smash
to first that couldn't be fielded. With two outs, catcher Doug Matlack's double to right
scored Caffrey. Center fielder L.J. Sneath doubled to right field to bring home Matlack
and make it a tie game at 2-2.
A leadoff home run by right fielder Todd Jennings in the
top of the sixth gave the Oaks a 3-2 lead. Graham put Citrus Heights out in order in
both the bottom of the sixth and the seventh for the complete-game victory.
