Fair Oaks 11, Citrus Heights 3 (League: 6-4, Overall: 6-5) - June 20 @ Bella Vista High -
Fair Oaks went up 8-0 after two innings en route to an 11-3 pounding of Citrus
Heights Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of the team at Bella Vista High
School.
The Oaks received another fine pitching performance - this
time from starter Manny Parra. Parra faced the minimum number of batters through
six of the first seven innings, either erasing the hitters himself or relying on great
defensive plays behind him.
Fair Oaks went up 4-0 in the first as second baseman Nic
DeRose walked with one out to start things off. Shortstop John Perkins then hit a ball
off the pitcher's mound that was booted at second to put two runners on and then
catcher Todd Jennings' hit to center scored DeRose. Right fielder Joe Caffrey followed
with a ball to short that was booted, loading the bases. With left fielder Ryan Mink at
the plate, a pitch in the dirt scored Perkins and then Mink's hit to right scored Jennings
and Caffrey to make it 4-0.
In the second, the Oaks scored another four runs. With
one out, third baseman Aaron Yurchak got a hit to left. Center fielder L.J. Sneath
followed with another hit to left and then DeRose hit a ball over the left field fence to
score three runs and make it 7-0. With two outs, Jennings came to the plate for a solo
shot over the left field fence, raising the Oaks' lead to 8-0.
Citrus Heights sent a new pitcher to the mound in the fifth
and the Oaks greeted him with another run. With one out, Caffrey got on via an error
at first and advanced to third on left fielder Ryan Mink's double to right. With
designated hitter Jeff Williams at the plate, a passed ball allowed Caffrey to score and
make it 9-0.
A leadoff hit to left by Yurchak and a Sneath homer to
right center gave the Oaks an 11-0 lead in the sixth. Citrus Heights finally got on the
board in the eighth as the Oaks replaced Parra on the mound with Doug Matlack.
An error and double to center put two runners on, and
then a walk loaded the bases with no outs. The next three batters recorded outs, but a
one out ground ball to second scored Citrus Heights' first run to make it 11-1.
Jake Jerue took the mound for Fair Oaks in the Citrus
Heights ninth. A close play at first and a dropped ball resulted in two Citrus Heights
runners. One scored on a fly to right and then with two outs, a hit to left scored
another CH run for the final 11-3 score. Jerue struck out the final batter of the inning
to end the game.
