Charles Eggen 11, Fair Oaks 6 (League: 7-6, Overall: 7-7) - June 26 @ Bella Vista High - Charles Eggen broke open a close game in the late innings to overcome a Fair Oaks rally en route to an 11-6 win over the Oaks at Bella Vista High School.
The Oaks got on the scoreboard in the first inning after two were out as catcher Todd Jennings walked. With shortstop John Perkins at the plate, Jennings took off for second and Perkins got a hit to right to send Jennings all the way to third. With the next batter, left fielder Ryan Mink at the plate, Perkins stole second. The throw to get him got away and Jennings scored from third to make it 1-0.
Eggen came back to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the second and added another trio of runs in the fifth to make it 6-1.
The Oaks cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth as second baseman Nic DeRose led off with a hit up the middle. Jennings then homered over the right center field fence to cut Eggen's lead to three runs at 6-3.
Eggen added another run in the seventh for a 7-3 advantage, but the Oaks came back to pull within one at 7-6 in the bottom of the inning. Right fielder Jeff Williams led off with a hit to left, followed by a hit to center by designated hitter Pat Bryant. First baseman Alex Graham then walked to load the bases for the Oaks. The next batter, center fielder L.J. Sneath flew to right, but the throw in went out of play allowing both Williams and Bryant to score to make it 7-5. DeRose followed with a hit to center to bring in another run, making it a 7-6 game.
Unfortunately, that would be the last run the Oaks got. Eggen added another two runs in the eighth off a walk and home run and repeated that in the ninth to make it an 11-6 game. The Oaks had runners on in both the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn't score as Charles Eggen held on for the victory.
