Fair Oaks 15, West Sacramento 5 (League: 2-1, Overall: 2-1) - May 30 @ Bella Vista - Post 383 got its second win of the season as they hosted West Sacramento at Bella Vista High School. And for the second straight game, the Oaks scored in double digits, beating West Sac. 15-5.
Fair Oaks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning as center fielder L.J. Sneath led off with a walk. With one out, catcher Todd Jennings lined a ball over the right field fence for a two-run homer and a 2-0 Oaks lead.
Oaks' starter Ryan Mink put West Sacramento down in order in the top of the second and the Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning for three more runs.
Consecutive walks to second baseman Nic DeRose and right fielder Joe Caffrey started off the inning and then with one out, Sneath hit a home run over the left field fence to make it a 5-0 game.
West Sac. went down 1-2-3 in the third, but in the fourth managed to get on the board with a single run on a pair of doubles to make it 5-1.
The Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning, however, for another three runs and an 8-1 lead.
Third baseman Aaron Yurchak led off the inning with a ball to short. The throw to first was wide and Yurchak beat the tag. Sneath then followed with his second home run of the game, pounding the ball over the right center field fence for a 7-1 Fair Oaks lead. The blast drove West Sac's starting pitcher from the game and his replacement promptly gave up a hit to catcher Doug Matlack. Jennings then hit a high bouncer over the pitcher's mound that no one could come up with. Jennings landed at first, with Matlack moving all the way to third. With shortstop John Perkins at the plate, Jennings purposely got picked off first. While Jennings was in the rundown, Matlack came home to score to make it 8-1.
Fair Oaks scored four more times in the fifth as DeRose led off with a hit to center. Caffrey followed with a ground-rule double to left center. With Todd Wanta at the plate, a pair of wild pitches scored both runners to make it 10-1. Wanta and the next batter, Sneath, both walked and then with one out, a Jennings hit to center scored Wanta and Sneath to make it 12-1.
Mink couldn't get anybody out in the sixth, giving up two walks and a hit to load the bases. A double followed to score one and make it 12-2. Another run would have scored, but was tagged out at the plate for the first out of the inning. Two more walks forced in another run to make it 12-3 and drive Mink off the mound in favor of Jake Jerue.
The first batter that Jerue faced grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Fair Oaks got three more runs in the sixth as hits by Eric Battenberg and DeRose, and a walk to Manny Parra loaded the bases. Wanta followed with a hit to center to score Battenberg and DeRose, and then with two outs, a Jennings hit to left scored Parra to make it 15-3.
West Sac. managed to score twice in the top of the seventh, but couldn't get any closer than the final 15-5 score.
