Folsom 19, Fair Oaks 6 (League: 2-1, Overall: 2-2) - June 2 @ Folsom High - If the cold, windy conditions were any indication, Fair Oaks should have known bad things were afoot as they took the field at the new Folsom High School campus.
Fortunately for the Oaks, this was a non-league game, as the Folsom Flames drubbed Post 383 19-6 to drop the Oaks' overall record to 2-2.
Folsom led 12-0 after two innings with the Oaks' only baserunner coming on an error in the second. A leadoff hit by designated hitter Alex Graham in the third gave Post 383 some hope, but three straight outs followed and Folsom came back for another pair of runs to take a 14-0 lead at the end of three. Ross Elmendorf replaced Eric Battenberg on the mound with one out in the third. Battenberg had come in to replace starter Jake Jerue with two out in the second. Elmendorf got the first batter he faced to pop to second and then struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Fair Oaks finally got on the board in the top of the fourth as catcher Doug Matlack led off with a walk. #20 (NOTE: We are without a roster name for #20 - it will be filled in later). hit a ball to second with no play being made, and then center fielder Ryan Mink got a hit to center to load the bases. Third baseman Joe Liebman's hit to right scored both Matlack and #20 to make it a 14-2 game.
Folsom came back with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Oaks responded with four runs in the fifth to make it a 16-6 game. Left fielder John Perkins led off with a double to left, followed by walks to Matlack and Todd Jennings to load the bases. With one out, Joe Caffrey walked to force in Perkins and then a double by Nic DeRose to left brought home Matlack, Jennings and Caffrey to make it 16-6. De Rose was out trying to stretch the double into a three-bagger. Walks to Alex Graham and #20 followed, but the Oaks couldn't bring home another run.
Folsom scored twice more in the fifth off new Oaks' pitcher Jeff Williams and added a run in the sixth for the final 19-6 margin.
