Starting pitcher Dan Gemma gave up a pair of hits and a walk in the opening inning to spot Haggin Grant two runs, but then settled down to shut them out the rest of the way as the Oaks came back for a 5-2 victory.
Fair Oaks got one run back in the third as catcher Doug Matlack led off with a walk. With third baseman Joe Liebman at the plate, an errant pickoff allowed Matlack to go to second. Liebman popped out to second in right center field and then a ground ball by center fielder L.J. Sneath moved Matlack to third. He scored on Gemma's hit up the middle to cut Haggin Grant's lead to 2-1.
The Oaks tied the game in the fourth as first baseman Bob Churchill rolled one past the second baseman to start things off. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by right fielder Tim Cook. With two outs and second baseman Aaron Yurchak at the plate, a wild pitch moved Churchill to third. Yurchak was hit by a pitch to put two runners on and then Matlack's ground ball to short was misplayed allowing Churchill to score and make it a 2-2 game.
The Oaks went up 4-2 in the fifth inning as Sneath sent a high fly on the infield to lead off the inning. The ball dropped just behind the pitcher's mound for a double. A wild pitch with Gemma at the plate sent Sneath to third. Gemma sent a grounder to short with the throw coming home to get Sneath at the plate. A pair of wild pitches with shortstop Rick Alonso at the plate moved Gemma to third. Gemma was able to score on another ball that escaped the catcher. A throw back to third went into left field and Gemma trotted home to make it a 3-2 game. Churchill then tripled to right field to score Alonso and make it a 4-2 lead for the Oaks.
Fair Oaks' final run of the game came home in the top of the seventh as Gemma cleared the left field fence with a solo shot to bring the score to 5-2.
Haggin Grant loaded the bases against Gemma in the bottom of the inning with one out, but Gemma came back to get the next two batters to pop up on the infield to preserve the 5-2 win for the Oaks.
