Haggin Grant 5, Fair Oaks 3 (League: 12-1, Overall: 15-2) - July 2 @ William Land Park - The Oaks dropped only their second game of the year, losing to Haggin Grant in the second game of a doubleheader at William Land Park, 5-3.
Fair Oaks scored first as center fielder L.J. Sneath powered a home run to left field in the opening inning after there were two out.
Haggin Grant answered back, however, in the bottom of the inning with a run of thir own to tie the game at 1-1. In the third, they scored again off starting pitcher Bryce Schimmel, making it a 2-1 advantage. Two more runs came home in the fifth and a single run in the sixth to up Haggin Grant's lead to 5-1.
The Oaks tried for one of their patented late-inning comebacks in the top of the seventh, but unfortunately this time they fell short, closing the gap by only two runs.
Designated hitter Alex Graham led off the inning getting hit by a pitch. First baseman Bob Churchill followed with a hit to left and then catcher Mike Wright walked to load the bases with no outs. Shortstop Ricky Alonso then struck out for the first out of the inning. With left fielder Tim Cook at the plate, a balk brought Graham home to make it 5-2. Cook then sent a ball to short with the throw going to second to get Wright for the second out. Churchill scored on the play, however, to bring the score to 5-3. A pop up to the first baseman by right fielder Doug Matlack for the third out ended the Oaks' rally and gave Post 383 only its second loss of the season against 14 wins.
