Fair Oaks 6, Yolo 4 (League: 13-1, Overall: 16-2) - July 5 @ Clark Field, Woodland - It took 10 innings, but the Fair Oaks Oaks beat their cross-divisional rivals Yolo Post 77 6-4 at Clark Field in Woodland.
The Oaks got starting pitcher Josh Gibson a 3-0 lead in the opening inning as left fielder Tim Cook led off with a walk. Second baseman Aaron Yurchak followed with a hit down the third base line, and then with one out, third baseman Joe Liebman doubled to right to bring in Cook. Catcher Doug Matlack followed with a hit to left to score Yurchak and then first baseman Bob Churchill followed with a hit to center to score Liebman for the 3-0 lead.
Yolo got two runs back in the second and a single run in the third to tie the game. The Oaks went back up by one, however, in the top of the fourth as Churchill led off with a walk. He was erased as the next batter, designated hitter Alex Graham, hit a ball to short with the throw going to second. Graham took second on right fielder Mike Wright's hit to center and then scored on a Ricky Alonso double to right for a 4-3 lead. A walk to Cook loaded the bases for the Oaks with one out, but Fair Oaks couldn't bring any more runs home in the fourth.
Yolo again tied the game with a single run in the sixth and threatened to score more prompting a pitching change for the Oaks as Graham took the mound. A ground out, intentional walk and strike out ended the inning, leaving the game tied at 4-4.
Yolo loaded the bases in the ninth with two outs, but couldn't bring the winning run across. The Oaks scored twice in the top of the 10th, however, as Ricky LaFavor hit a high chopper on the infield with one out and beat the throw to first. With Yurchak at the plate, LaFavor stole second and then took third on a wild pitch. Yurchak walked and with two outs and Liebman at the plate, stole second unopposed. Liebman then got a hit to right field to score both runners and give the Oaks a 6-4 lead.
Yolo went out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning as the Oaks picked up the 6-4 victory.
