Fair Oaks 11, Rio Loma 0 (League: 14-2, Overall: 17-3) - July 8 @ Bella Vista High - The Oaks dominated Rio Loma in the opening game of a doubleheader, pounding the visiting team 11-0 at Bella Vista High School.
Post 383 got on the scoreboard in the first inning as first baseman Bob Churchill started things off with a one out walk. Center fielder L.J. Sneath followed with a fly to short right center field that dropped in and then third baseman Joe Liebman hit a ball between the legs of the shortstop that scored Churchill for a 1-0 lead. A wild pitch with catcher Doug Matlack at the plate scored Sneath to make it 2-0.
Fair Oaks loaded the bases in the second, but failed to score. In the fourth, three more runs came home as Matlack started things off with a hit to left. Designated hitter Dan Gemma followed with a walk. With right fielder Matt Pudge at the plate, a balk advanced both runners. With one out, second baseman Josh Gibson sent a slow roller to short that was bobbled. Matlack scored on the play. Then with two outs, shortstop Aaron Yurchak hit a ball to third. A bad throw to first resulted in two more runs scoring as Gemma and Gibson crossed the plate for a 5-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Bryce Schimmel sent Rio Loma down in order in the fifth and the Oaks came back for two more runs in the bottom of the inning off a new Rio Loma pitcher.
Sneath led off with a double to left and a ground ball by Liebman sent him to third. He scored on a double to right center by Matlack, with Matlack moving to third on a hit by Gemma to right field. Matlack then scored on a ground ball by Pudge to give the Oaks a 7-0 lead.
Rio Loma went down in order again in the sixth and the Oaks scored their final four runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Left fielder Ricky LaFavor led off with a hit to left, followed by walks to Yurchak, Churchill and Sneath. Sneath's walk forced in LaFavor to make it 8-0 and forced yet another pitching change by Rio Loma. A wild pitch with Liebman at the plate scored Yurchak and then a ground ball to third scored Churchill to make it 10-0. Matlack then sent a ball up the middle that went off the pitcher's glove and Sneath scored to give the Oaks an 11-0 lead.
Schimmel again sent Rio Loma down in order in the top of the seventh, including striking out the final two batters, to pick up the complete game victory.
