Fair Oaks 5, Folsom 0 (League: 1-0, Overall: 1-0) - May 30 @ Renfree Field - The 2001 Oaks used a mix of returning veterans and new players to dominate the Folsom Flames for a 5-0 win in their District 6 opener at Renfree Field.
Starting pitcher Mike Blanford shut the Flames down in order in the top of the first and the Oaks staked a 1-0 lead in the bottom
of the inning as left fielder Tim Cook led off with a hit to left. With right fielder Steve Snider at the plate, a passed ball moved Cook to second. Snider grounded out, moving Cook to third. Center fielder L.J. Sneath then hit a

ball to short. Cook tried to score, but was out at the plate, leaving Sneath safe at first. With catcher Doug Matlack at the plate, a wild pitch sent Sneath to second. Matlack then hit a ball to third. The throw was dropped at first, leaving Matlack safe at the bag and allowing Sneath to score for the 1-0 lead.
First baseman Manny Parra was the next batter, drawing a walk, but designated hitter Robert Barrett struck out to end the inning, leaving Fair Oaks with a 1-0 lead.
Blanford allowed a walk in the second, but shut Folsom down in order in the third. The Oaks came back for three more runs in the bottom of the inning as Snider led off with a hit to center.
Snider stole second with Sneath at the plate and then Sneath followed with a hit to left to score the Oaks' second run of the game. Matlack followed with a hit to left, moving Sneath to third. Parra's grounder to first scored Sneath to make it 3-0.
Barrett got a hit to right to keep the Oaks' drive alive and then a fly to center by third baseman Mike Wright brought Matlack home to make it a 4-0 game.
Barrett relieved Blanford in the top of the fourth and after allowing a leadoff hit, struck out the next two batters and got the third to ground out to first.
The Oaks scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth as second baseman Larry Lomascola led off with a walk. Cook followed with a hit to left and then a bunt by Snider resulting in a high throw to first loaded up the bases.
A ground ball to short by Sneath brought Lomascola home to make it a 5-0 game in favor of the Oaks.
Folsom went down in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh as the Oaks picked up a season-opening win over the Flames.
