Fair Oaks 12, Charles Eggen 1 (League: 7-0, Overall: 9-1) - June 20 @ Renfree Field - Fair Oaks resumed league play with a 12-1 victory over Charles Eggen at Renfree Field. The win kept the Oaks as the only undefeated team in District 6 play.
Fair Oaks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as left fielder Tim Cook started things off with a hit to right field. He stole second with right fielder Garrett Holtzen at the plate. With two out, Cook scored on a double by first baseman Doug Matlack. Matlack then scored on a single to left by designated hitter Dan Gemma for a 2-0 lead.
The Oaks scored again in the fourth after two were out as shortstop Derek Chase walked. Second baseman Larry Lomascola's ground ball to short sent Chase to second, and he continued on to third as the ball was booted by the infielder. With Cook at the plate, Lomascola stole second. The throw got away and Chase scored to make it a 3-0 game.
Starting pitcher Manny Parra continued to dominate Charles Eggen recording three strikeouts in the fifth and the Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning to score four more runs for a 7-0 lead.
Holtzen led off, hitting a ground ball to second and beating the throw to first. With center fielder L.J. Sneath at bat, Holtzen stole second. Sneath struck out bringing Matlack to the plate. Matlack walked and then a Gemma hit to right that went for a triple scored Holtzen and Matlack to make it 5-0. Catcher Kyle Carden followed with a hit to right center to score Gemma. The center fielder let the ball get by him and Carden took second on the play. Third baseman Mike Wright followed with a hit to center to score Carden and make it 7-0, after Carden advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Chase took the mound in the seventh to relieve Parra. Despite giving up a leadoff walk, Chase faced only three batters as a strikeout and fly to right was followed by a failed steal attempt.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Oaks made it a 9-0 lead as Matlack led off with a triple to right center. Parra, who went from the mound to first, doubled to score Matlack. Carden followed with a hit to left and Lomascola got a hit to right to score Parra to make it 9-0.
Charles Eggen got its only run of the game in the top of the eighth as a leadoff hit followed by a double put a runner on third. The next batter flew out allowing the runner at third to tag and score.
The Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning to score three more runs for their final 12-1 margin. Steve Snider led off with a hit to right. With two outs, Matlack doubled to center to score Snider. Parra followed with a ball to short. The throw to first was bad and got away allowing Matlack to score. Carden followed with a hit to left and Wright got a hit to right to load the bases. Chase finished things off with a hit to left to score Parra to give the Oaks their 12-1 lead. Carden also tried to score, but was out at the plate to end the inning.
Eggen got a two out double in the top of the ninth, but Chase got a ground ball to third to end the game and give the Oaks their seventh league win without a loss.
