Fair Oaks 10, Post 61 0 (League: 7-0, Overall: 10-1) - June 23 @ McAuliffe Field - The Oaks got off to a good start in the District 6 #2 Tournament with a 10-0 win over Post 61 - a five-inning game shortened by the tournament's 10-Run Rule.
Fair Oaks scored three times in the first inning as leadoff hitter - left fielder Tim Cook - walked to start things off. He moved to second on center fielder Steve Snider's sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher and then scored as third baseman L.J. Sneath powered a home run over the left field fence to give the Oaks a 2-0 advantage. The next batter, right fielder Manny Parra, also homered to raise the score to 3-0.
Two more runs scored in the bottom of the third as Sneath led off with a walk. With Parra at the plate, Sneath stole second. Parra struck out, followed by first baseman Dan Gemma who was hit by a pitch. During Gemma's at-bat, Sneath advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored as catcher Mike Wright hit a ball to short. Gemma was out at second on the force, but Wright reached first safely on a high throw. Shortstop Josh Thompson then tripled to right to score Wright and make it a 5-0 game.
Starting pitcher Garrett Holtzen continued to hold Post 61 scoreless and the Oaks added another pair of runs in the fourth as Cook got a one out hit to left. With two outs, Sneath again homered - this time to center - to up the score to 7-0.
Despite a two out triple, Post 61 couldn't score in the fifth and the Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning to score three more runs and win the game due to the 10-Run Rule.
Gemma walked to start things off and moved to second with Wright at the plate on a bad pickoff attempt. Wright got a hit to right field and then Gemma scored on Thompson's hit to left to make it 8-0. With second baseman Larry Lomascola at the plate, Wright was out stealing third. Lomascola walked and then Cook's hit to center scored Thompson to make it 9-0. Snider walked to load the bases, prompting a Post 61 pitching change. The new pitcher, however, walked Sneath to force in Lomascola with the game's 10th run, and the Oaks posted the 10-0 win.
