Josh Thompson
Merced 5, Fair Oaks 2 (League: 7-0, Overall: 10-2) - June 23 @ McAuliffe Field - Fair Oaks never quite got on track in its second game of the District 6 Tournament at McAuliffe Field, losing to Merced by a score of 5-2.
Merced jumped out to a 2-0 lead off starter Ryan Knippschild in the first inning and added single runs in the third and fourth for a 4-0 lead over the Oaks.
Fair Oaks finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as first baseman Dan Gemma led off with a hit to center. Shortstop Josh Thompson followed with another hit - also to center - and then Gemma was erased when catcher Mike Wright hit a ball back to the pitcher with the throw going to third. Center fielder Steve Snider then walked and Thompson scored as the next batter - second baseman Larry Lomascola - hit a ball to short with Snider getting erased at second. Wright scored on the next play as left fielder Tim Cook got a hit to left field to make it a 4-2 game.
That's all the Oaks would get, however, as Merced scored one more run in the top of the sixth for the final 5-2 margin.
Fair Oaks went out in order in both the sixth and seventh innings as Merced sent Post 383 down to only its second loss of the year.
