Fair Oaks 9, Folsom 2 (League: 8-0, Overall: 11-4) - June 27 @ Renfree Field - The Oaks continued to dominate American Division District 6 play with a 9-2 victory over the Folsom Flames at Renfree Field.
The Fair Oaks pitching combo of Manny Parra and Robert Barrett combined for 19 strikeouts in the game and held Folsom to only four hits.
Fair Oaks scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a lad they would never give up as left fielder Tim Cook started things off with a walk. With one out, center fielder L.J. Sneath hit a ball
Robert Barrett
to short that was booted and he reached first safely with Cook advancing to third. With catcher Doug Matlack at the plate, a balk scored Cook and moved Sneath to second. Sneath moved to third on Matlack's ground ball to short and then with Parra at the plate, Sneath scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
In the third, two more runs scored as shortstop Josh Thompson and Sneath drew back-to-back walks. Matlack, the third batter of the inning, then doubled to drive in both runners to make it a 4-0 game.
Folsom answered back with a single run in the fourth and eventually loaded the bases with two outs, but Parra struck out the next batter to get out of the inning with no further damage.
In the fifth, back-to-back doubles by Sneath and Matlack brought home another run to make it 5-1. Barrett came in to relieve Parra in the top of the sixth and struck out the side, setting up Fair Oaks' sixth in which they scored three more runs for an 8-1 lead.
Right fielder Steve Snider started things off with a hit to left field. With second baseman Larry Lomascola at the plate, a wild pitch advanced Snider to second. He scored on Lomascola's hit to right. Lomascola advanced to second on a bunt by Cook and then scored on a double to right center by Thompson. Folsom put in its second reliever of the night, but three straight walks loaded the bases and forced home Thompson with the Oaks' eighth run of the game.
Folsom got its second run of the evening in the top of the seventh, but the Oaks answered back in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-2 advantage.
Snider hit a grounder to first to start things off. The ball got by the first baseman and Snider was safe. Lomascola followed with a ground ball to short that erased Snider, but Lomascola beat the throw to first to avoid the double play. Cook then got a hit to left and an error on a ground ball to short by Thompson loaded the bases for the Oaks. A ball to short with the force at second off Sneath's bat sent Lomascola home to make it a 9-2 Oaks advantage.
Folsom couldn't muster a rally in the eighth or ninth as Barrett struck out five over those two innings - including three in the ninth after a leadoff walk - and the Oaks recorded the 9-2 win.
