Fair Oaks 20, Post 61 2 (League: 8-0, Overall: 12-4) - June 28 @ Bella Vista High - Pounding out 15 hits, the Oaks defeated Post 61 by a ascore of 20-2 in a non-league contest at Bella Vista High School.
Starting pitcher Kris Wright walked the first two batters he faced in the game, but then came back for three straight strikeouts and the Oaks went on to score five times in the bottom of the first for a 5-0 lead.

Left fielder Tim Cook started things off with a hit to left, followed by a hit to right by catcher Doug Matlack. With center fielder L.J. Sneath at the plate, a bad pickoff to second resulted in Cook advancing to third. He then scored on Sneath's fly to center. Designated hitter Manny Parra then hit a ball to second that was booted and first baseman Dan Gemma was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Right fielder Garrett Holtzen followed with a double to left to score Matlack and Parra and then a ground ball to short by third baseman Mike Wright scored Gemma to make it 4-0. With shortstop Derek Chase at the plate, a wild pitch scored Holtzen and the Oaks had a 5-0 lead.
Post 61 came back in the top of the second for a single run on an error and a hit, but a double play from Gemma at first to Chase and back to Kris Wright covering first and a strike out by Wright ended the inning with no further damage being done.
Post 383 scored five more runs in the third as Sneath led off with a hit to left. Parra was hit by a pitch and then Gemma got a hit to left to score Sneath. Holtzen followed with a ball to second that went through the fielder's legs, scoring Parra. With Mike Wright at the plate, Holtzen was caught stealing and then Wright struck out. But Chase followed with a hit to left to score Gemma and a hit by second baseman Larry Lomascola moved Chase to second. With Cook at the plate, a balk sent Chase to third and Lomascola to second. Cook then followed with a hit to left to score both runners and give the Oaks a 10-1 lead.
Fair Oaks added a run in the fourth as Parra was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a passed ball, and went to third on a bad throw back to the mound. Gemma, the batter, then hit a ball to short that was bobbled, letting him reach first safely and scoring Parra from third.
Two more runs came home in the fifth for the Oaks. Cook led off with a hit to left and then with one out, Sneath powered a home run over the right center field fence to make it 13-1.
Post 61 answered back with a home run in the top of the seventh to make it 13-2, but the Oaks came back to score again in the bottom of the inning off a new Post 61 pitcher. Josh Thompson led off with a double to left and with Cook at the plate, moved to third on a wild pitch. Cook hit a ball to short, but the throw to first was low and he was safe at the bag. The play scored Thompson to make it 14-2. Matlack then hit a ball to left that was dropped, allowing him to reach safely. With one out, a walk to Steve Snider loaded the bases and then with two outs, a walk to Holtzen forced in Cook to make it 15-2.
Snider relieved Kris Wright on the mound in the eighth, holding Post 61 scoreless despite allowing two walks. The Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning for their final five runs of the game.
Consecutive walks to Chase and Thompson started the inning off. A wild pitch advanced both runners and then Chase scored on a fly to center by Cook. Matlack was the next batter and he homered over the right center field fence to make it an 18-2 game. Sneath followed with a walk and then Snider doubled to left center after the fielder appeared to lose the ball and it dropped in. Parra was the next batter and he sent a ball deep to left. After some discussion, the hit was labeled a ground rule double (although some thought it went over the fence on the fly). Sneath and Snider scored on the hit to make it 20-2. With the sky darkening and the score out of control, the umpires decided enough was enough and called the game in the eighth with one out.
