Fair Oaks 22, Charles Eggen 13 (League: 9-0, Overall: 13-4) - July 5 @ Jesuit High School - After scoring 42 runs in their last two games, it's probably safe to say that Post 383's offense is well-oiled and ready for the upcoming playoffs.
The start of the game didn't resemble the final outcome as the Oaks took a slim 1-0 lead in the first inning. With one out, right fielder Garrett Holtzen got a hit up the middle, followed by center fielder L.J. Sneath's hit to left. With two outs, first baseman Manny Parra's pop to third was dropped allowing Holtzen to score for the 1-0 lead.

Charles Eggen, winless in league play, came back in the bottom of the inning to score two runs off starting pitcher Mike Zeleski, bunching together a home run, triple and single to take the lead.
Eggen's lead was short-lived, however, as the Oaks came back to score eight times in the second inning - after two were out - for a 9-2 lead.
With one out, third baseman Derek Chase hit a ball to short that was booted. With second baseman Larry Lomascola at the plate, Chase stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Lomascola flew to left for the second out, allowing Chase to tag and score to tie the game. The next batter, left fielder Tim Cook, hit a ball to second. The throw to first was low and got away, allowing Cook to scramble to second. Holtzen followed with a walk and then a Sneath hit to left scored Cook to make it a 3-2 game. Holtzen went to third on the throw home, with Sneath advancing to second. With catcher Doug Matlack at the plate, a wild pitch scored Holtzen to make it 4-2 and then Matlack's hit up the middle scored Sneath to give the Oaks a 5-2 lead. Parra then hit a long drive to center that bounced over the fence for a ground rule double. The next batter, shortstop Josh Thompson, cleared the bases with a home run over the left center field wall to score Matlack and Parra ahead of himself for an 8-2 lead. Designated hitter Robert Barrett followed with another home run - also over the left center fence - to round out the scoring in the second, chase the Eggen pitcher from the mound, and give the Oaks a 9-2 lead.
Fair Oaks added two more runs in the third - again with two outs - as Sneath doubled to left field to start things off. Matlack followed with a walk and then Parra was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Thompson followed with a hit to left to score Sneath and Matlack and make it an 11-2 game.
The Oaks appeared to be in total control of the contest, but Charles Eggen had other ideas. Eggen came back in the bottom of the inning to score nine times and tie the game at 11-11. A string of walks loaded the bases and a double and another walk made it 11-5 and chased Zeleski from the mound in favor of Kris Wright. Wright lasted only four batters, giving up three walks and a single as Eggen narrowed the Oaks' lead to 11-8. Dan Gemma then took the mound and promptly gave up a hit that scored two more runs to make it 11-10. An error and a ground ball resulted in another run, tying the game at 11-11. Gemma finally got a ground ball resulting in a double play to get out of the inning.
The Oaks struggled, but went back in the lead, in the top of the fourth as Cook drew a one out walk. He was erased on a Holtzen grounder to short, but Holtzen beat the throw to first to keep a runner on base. With Sneath at the plate, Holtzen stole second and made it to third on a misplay. Sneath walked and then with Matlack at the plate, Sneath and Holtzen pulled a double steal, with Sneath making it safely to second and Holtzen scoring to make it 12-11.
The Oaks padded their lead in the fifth as Barrett led off with a ground ball to second. The throw to the pitcher covering first was late and Barrett was safe. With Mike Wright at the plate, Barrett stole second. Wright walked and both runners advanced as the next batter, Lomascola, put down a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Cook hit a ball to short. The throw to first got away allowing Barrett to score. With Holtzen at the plate, Cook stole second. Cook hit a ball to first, scoring Wright and then Sneath hit a ball to third that was stopped and dropped, allowing Cook to score to make it 15-11. Matlack then hit a ground ball to third. The third baseman made a diving stop, but couldn't make a play. Parra then hit a ball deep to center for an in-the-park home run, scoring Sneath and Matlack ahead of him for an 18-11 advantage.
Gemma put Eggen down in order in the bottom of the inning and the Oaks went back to work in the sixth. With one out, Mike Wright hit a ball to deep short, beating the throw for a hit. With Lomascola at the plate, a wild pitch advanced Wright to second. Lomascola then hit a ground ball moving the runner to third, but was called out for interference as he got tangled up with the first baseman as he tried to throw the ball. Cook walked and then with Holtzen at the plate, a balk scored Wright and moved Cook to second. Holtzen hit a ball to third that was booted, allowing Cook to advance to third. Sneath followed with a drive deep to left that resulted in another in-the-parker, scoring Cook, Holtzen and himself for a 22-11 lead.
Steve Snider took the mound in the bottom of the sixth and ran into some difficulty. After getting the first batter to pop to short, a walk and an error put two runners on. A ground ball got another out, but then Snider hit the next batter to load the bases. A hit to right scored two more runs to make it 22-13, but then Snider got a pop to first to end the inning.
Neither team scored in the seventh inning and the Oaks kept their league record perfect as they improved to 9-0 on the season.
