Vacaville 7, Fair Oaks 1 (League: 12-0, Overall: 22-7) - July 29 @ Yountville - The gloom of the coastal cloud layer that hung over Borman Field in Yountville was probably a fitting way to start Sunday's Fair Oaks vs. Vacaville game. It certainly indicated things to come as the Oaks were eliminated from post-season play by a score of 7-1.

The Oaks seemed uncharacteristically listless in the game, managing only five hits and committing three errors. Fair Oaks had base runners in every inning except the ninth and loaded the bases in the fifth with only one out, but were unable to score in any inning except the first when they got their lone run.
Vacaville scored twice in the top of the first off starter Garrett Holtzen. A leadoff walk and a hit up the middle brought one run home and an error on the throw in that went wide of third base and allowed the batter to make it all the way to third contributed to the second run as the next batter knocked it in on a ground out to first.
Fair Oaks got its only run of the game in the bottom of the first as catcher Doug Matlack got a one out hit to left field. Center fielder L.J. Sneath followed with a walk and then with two outs, shortstop Josh Thompson hit a ground ball to second. Rather than the play going for an out, a hustling Thompson made a headfirst dive into the bag to beat the throw and Matlack scored to make it 2-1.
That was pretty much the end of the Oaks' highlight reel for the game.
The Oaks had runners as far as third in both the second and third innings; second base in the fourth; and then loaded the bases in the fifth as Holtzen got a leadoff hit, Matlack was hit by a pitch, and right fielder Manny Parra walked. But a double play from the pitcher to home to first ended the inning without the Oaks scoring.
Vacaville scored three more runs in the fifth, knocking Holtzen off the mound in favor of Robert Barrett, and added lone runs in the eighth and ninth. Fair Oaks managed runners in every inning, but the ninth when the Oaks went out in order, including two strikeouts, to end the game.
Despite the loss, Fair Oaks still had a great season, finishing with a 22-7 record and the District 6 Championship.
