Reno 7, Fair Oaks 2 (League: 6-0, Overall: 8-1) - June 18 @ Bella Vista High - After coming back to tie a close game at 2-2, the Oaks fell apart in extra innings to lose to the Reno Sun Devils 7-2 at Bella Vista High School.
Reno took a 1-0 lead off starter Garrett Holtzen in the first inning. The Oaks loaded the bases in the bottom of the first, but could not score and the game remained a one run affair until the fourth when Reno scored again to double its lead at 2-0.
Ryan Knippschild relieved Holtzen to start the Reno fifth and appeared to have things under control as Reno had difficulty with the left-handed pitcher.
Manny Parra
The Oaks tied the game in the sixth as center fielder L.J. Sneath led off with a walk. With one out, first baseman Manny Parra came to the plate and powered a pitch over the right field fence to make it a 2-2 contest.
Reno sent a new hurler to the mound who recorded two strikeouts to end the inning. Knippschild sent Reno down in order in the seventh and Fair Oaks failed to score in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra-innings.
The bottom fell out in the eighth as the first six Reno batters reached base, giving the Sun Devils a 6-2 lead and chasing Knippschild from the mound in favor of Derek Chase.
Chase struck out the first batter he faced and got the next one to send a line drive back to the mound. But two consecutive walks after that loaded the bases and forced in a run to give Reno a 7-2 lead.
The Oaks went down in order in the bottom of the eighth to give Post 383 its first loss of the year.
