Folsom 11, Fair Oaks 8 (League: 5-3, Overall: 5-3) - June 6 @ Bella Vista High School - Fair Oaks blew an early 8-2 lead en route to their second straight loss at the hands of the Folsom Flames, 11-8, at Bella Vista High School.
Fair Oaks scored three times in the first to take an early lead as right fielder Charles Smith led off with a single up the middle. Second baseman Josh Thompson followed with a double to left center to score Smith, but was thrown out as he tried to take third. Center fielder Bill Rhinehart then hit a ground ball to first. The first baseman
A first inning home run by Devon Spurling was one of the few bright spots for the Oaks in an 11-8 loss.
fielded it cleanly only to find no one was covering the bag and Rhinehart was safe. With two outs, left fielder Devon Spurling hit a home run over the left field fence to score Rhinehart and himself to make it a 3-0 game.
Folsom got one run back in the second off Oaks starter Mickey Weisser, but the Oaks exploded in the bottom of the inning for three more runs to make it a 6-1 game.
Shortstop Derek Chase led off the inning with a walk and with first baseman Mike House at the plate, advanced to second on a bad pickoff play to first. A grounder to short by House moved Chase to third and then he scored on third baseman Mike Wright's hit to right. Smith followed with a hit to left and then a Thompson double down the third base line scored Wright and sent Smith to third. Rhinehart's groundout to short scored Smith to make it a 6-1 game.
Folsom came back with a run in the top of the third, but the Oaks answered back in the bottom of the inning for a 7-2 lead.
Spurling led off with a walk and went to second on a balk with catcher Doug Matlack at the plate. With two outs, House walked and then Wright got a hit to center to drive home Spurling to make it a 7-2 game and drive Folsom's starter off the mound.
The Oaks made it 8-2 in the fourth as Rhinehart got a one out double to center and then scored on a Weisser hit to left.
Folsom rallied, however, in the fifth to close the score to 8-6. Fair Oaks switched pitchers in the sixth with A.J. Vidlund taking the mound. But Vidlund couldn't shut the Flames down as Folsom scored five more runs after two were out to make it an 11-8 game.
The Oaks went out in order in the sixth, as did Folsom in the top of the seventh off new Oaks pitcher Brian Janowiak. Unfortunately the Oaks again failed to get anything going in the bottom of the inning as they went 1-2-3 to end the game and give the Flames an 11-8 victory.
