Oaks pitcher Brian Janowiak looks in for the sign in the Oaks game against Post 61 at Renfree Field.
Post 61 5, Fair Oaks 4 (League: 9-4, Overall: 9-4) - June 17 @ Renfree Field - The Oaks blew another early lead in the second game of their doubleheader at Renfree Field, eventually losing 5-4 to Post 61.
Fair Oaks scored three times in the second inning off Post 61 starter Will Blucher as designated hitter Charles Smith led off with a home run to center field. Second baseman Larry Lomascola followed with a strikeout, but catcher Kevin Dawidczik dropped the ball and Lomascola beat the throw to first. Lomascola moved to third on a double by right fielder Matt Schirmer and then catcher Chris Tipton hit a ball back up the middle off Blucher's glove that scored Lomascola for a 2-0 lead. Schirmer then scored on a fly ball to center by third baseman A.J. Vidlund to make it a 3-0 game.
Post 61 got two runs back in the third. The first on a Russ Hocking double, a walk to Jason Roach and a hit to center by Anthony Munoz. A passed ball scored Roach to make it a 3-2 game.
The Oaks went up 4-2 in the fifth, however, as center fielder Steve Snider led off with a hit up the middle. First baseman Mickey Weisser then hit a ball to deep short, beating the throw to first. A wild pitch with left fielder Bill Rhinehart at the plate advanced both runners and then Snider scored on a fly ball to center by Smith to make it 4-2.
After giving up a leadoff double in the sixth to Derrick Mar and a two out walk to Adam Roach, Oaks starter Brian Janowiak was replaced on the mound by Tyler Robertson. Robertson walked the first batter he faced, Hocking, loading the bases and then a fly ball to right dropped in for a double. Schirmer apparently never saw the ball coming and Snider couldn't reach it in time for the catch. Mar, Roach and Hocking all scored to give Post 61 a 5-4 lead.
A leadoff double by Schirmer gave Oaks hope in the sixth, but three straight outs followed. Robertson put Post 61 down in order in the top of the seventh, including two strikeouts, bringing the Oaks back to the plate for one last try.
Snider led off with a hit to center, but the next two batters recorded outs bringing up Smith who already had two hits in three times at the plate. Smith doubled to center, but Snider wasn't able to advance past third and unfortunately for the Oaks, the next batter - Lomascola - struck out looking to end the game.
