Fair Oaks 15, Post 61 0 (League: 10-4, Overall: 10-4) - June 18 @ Land Park - Fair Oaks avenged its doubleheader loss the day before with a 15-0 win over Post 61 at Land Park.
Post 383 got on the board early with four runs in the first inning. Shortstop Josh Thompson got a one out hit to right to start things off and stole second base with first baseman Mickey Weisser at the plate. Weisser struck out, but then a hit by pitcher Charles Smith scored Thompson to make it 1-0. Right fielder Bill Rhinehart was then hit by a pitch and moved to third on a hit to right by second baseman Larry Lomascola. The hit scored Smith for a 2-0 Oaks lead. The next batter, third baseman Jason Lomascola, doubled to center to score both Rhinehart and Larry Lomascola to make it a 4-0 game.
Smith put Post 61 down in order in the bottom of the inning and then the Oaks went back to work with another four runs in the top of the second.
Thompson led off with a double to left and then stole second with Weisser at the plate. Weisser walked prompting a Post 61 pitching change as starter Russ Seros left the mound in favor of Ricky Sample. Sample walked Smith to load the bases and then Rhinehart also drew a walk to force in Thompson from third to make it 5-0. Larry Lomascola doubled to left to score Weisser and Smith and then a fly to center by Jason Lomascola scored Rhinehart to make it an 8-0 game.
The Oaks went up 9-0 in the third with a lone run as Thompson drew a ladoff walk. He again stole second with Weisser at the plate. Weisser struck out and the next batter, Smith, popped to first. But Rhinehart followed with a double to right to score Thompson to add to Post 383's lead.
Post 61 went down in order in both the third and fourth innings with another Oaks four-run outburst sandwiched in between.
With one out in the top of the fourth, Jason Lomascola hit a ball to short that kicked off the shortstop's glove. Catcher Joe Gaggero followed with a similar hit off the third baseman's glove and then both runners scored on a triple to left center by left fielder Sam Ferra. Center fielder Steve Snider then grounded to second to bring in Ferra from third and give the Oaks a 12-0 lead.
Ben Gale took the mound for Post 61 in the fifth, but the Oaks added another run to their total after two were out. Rhinehart doubled to left and then scored on a Larry Lomascola hit to center. Jason Lomascola also had a hit to center and a failed force at second on a ball hit by Gaggero loaded the bases. The Oaks were unable to bring home any more runs, however.
The Oaks scored their final two runs in the sixth as Derek Chase drew a one out walk. With two outs, consecutive walks to Brian Janowiak and Matt Schirmer loaded the bases and another walk to David Breisacher forced in Chase to make it 14-0. Post 61 sent its fourth pitcher of the day to the mound - Derrick Mar - but he walked the first batter he faced - Jason Lomascola - to force in Janowiak and give the Oaks their final 15-0 margin.
A.J. Vidlund took the mound for the Oaks in the sixth allowing only one hit and Vidlund sent 61 down in order in the seventh to give the Oaks the win.
