Yolo 13, Fair Oaks 2 (League: 12-5, Overall: 12-5) - June 24 @ Renfree Field - Yolo evened the season-series with Fair Oaks at one game each with a 13-2 victory over the Oaks at Renfree Field.     Post 383 took an early lead in the game with a lone run in the bottom of the first after Oaks starting pitcher Brian Janowiak shut Post 77 down in the top of the inning.
With one out, first baseman Mickey Weisser walked and then moved to second on a balk by Yolo pitcher Brandon Boyd. A hit to right field by left fielder Bill Rhinehart moved Weisser to third and then with two out and second baseman Larry Lomascola at the plate, Rhinehart and Weisser pulled off a double steal with Weisser scoring to make it 1-0.
After that promising start, things fell apart for the Oaks as Yolo scored seven times to take a 7-1 lead in the top of the second.
Five hits, including doubles by Greg Finazzo and Dan Cody, coupled with a hit batsman, error and intentional walk to Mike Brown made it 4-1 and loaded the bases. Then a base-clearing double by Matt Long gave Yolo a six run lead and brought in a new Oaks pitcher in A. J. Vidlund.
Vidlund escaped with no further damage, throwing a ground ball and a strikeout to end the inning.
Two more errors led to another run for Yolo in the third and consecutive hits by Brown, Long and Jeff Lopez to start the fourth made it a 9-1 game.
Yolo scored one more time in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 10-1 advantage, but the Oaks managed to get one run back in the bottom of the fifth as center fielder Steve Snider led off with a bunt and beat the throw to first for a hit. A wild pitch sent Snider to second and with two outs, Chris Tipton, who came in to catch in the top of the fifth, got a hit to center to score Snider and make it 10-2.
Yolo added another run in the sixth off Derek Chase, who relieved Vidlund in the fifth. The Oaks faced a new Yolo pitcher in Nick Miller to start the bottom of the sixth and finally got something going only to have their rally killed by a controversial non-call.
Vidlund led off the inning with a hit up the middle, followed by a walk to David Breisacher. Then Chase hit a fly to right with the right fielder diving for the ball. It wasn't clear to anyone whether the ball was caught or trapped and the umpire failed to make any kind of signal on the play.
Confusion reigned on the field with both Yolo's players and the Oaks' three base runners unsure what to do.
Still no call from the umpire! Vidlund eventually wound up on third and both Breisacher and Chase shared first.
The umpires finally ruled that the ball was trapped, giving Chase a hit. Both Vidlund and Breisacher were ruled out. Had the "trap" call been made in a timely fashion, the Oaks would have had at the very least the bases loaded with no outs. Instead they had one runner on with two outs. This resulted in an official protest of the game by Fair Oaks.
Snider took the mound for the Oaks in the top of the seventh and adding insult to injury (the Oaks egos had to be a little bruised), Yolo scored two more times.
Brian Hawkins beat the throw to first on a slow ground ball to second for a leadoff hit and then scored on a triple by Brown. He in turn scored on a ground ball to second by Long to make it a 13-2 contest.
After a ground ball out to start the bottom of the seventh, all the Oaks could manage was a walk to Rhinehart. The next two batters struck out to end the game and give Yolo the 13-2 victory.
