Fair Oaks 12, West Sacramento 3 (League: 1-1, Overall: 1-1) - May 28 @ Renfree Field - The Oaks got revenge on West Sacramento for their season-opening 10-1 loss the day before as Fair Oaks pounded West Sac. 12-3 at Renfree Field to even their record at 1-1.
The Oaks staked starting pitcher Tyler Robertson to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning as center fielder Steve Snider led off with a walk. With shortstop Derek Chase at the plate, Snider was out stealing, but Chase took his place on first after getting hit by a pitch.
First baseman Mickey Weisser followed with a hit to right field and then Chase scored on a double to left by right fielder Charles Smith. Weisser also came home as the next batter, left fielder Sam Ferra, hit a ball to third that was booted, making it a 2-0 game.
The Oaks added another run in the bottom of the second after two were out as Snider walked and moved to second on a wild pitch with Chase at the plate. Chase then grounded to short, but beat the throw to first and then Weisser brought home Snider with a hit to right field to make it a 3-0 Oaks lead.
A hit sandwiched by two hit batsmen in the top of the third led to two West Sacramento runs and West Sacramento added a lone run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
Post 383 stormed back in the bottom of the fourth, however, to score eight runs and take a commanding 11-3 lead.
Snider drew his third consecutive walk to lead off the inning and then moved to second on a bunt by Chase. Weisser was hit by a pitch to put two on. With Smith at the plate, a wild pitch advanced both runners and then a hit up the middle scored both runs to make it 5-3.
Ferra followed with a hit to center, sending Smith to third and he scored on a hit to left by designated hitter Todd Atkinson to make it a 6-3 game.
The hit drove West Sacramento's starter off the mound, but the new pitcher didn't have any better luck as third baseman A.J. Vidlund greeted him with a double to center that scored Ferra to make it 7-3.
Catcher Joe Gaggero followed with a walk to load the bases and then second baseman Larry Lomascola walked to force in Atkinson to make it 8-3.
Snider faced a new pitcher and drew his fourth walk of the day to force in Vidlund and make it 9-3. Then with two outs, Weisser doubled down the right field line to score Gaggero and Lomascola to make it an 11-3 contest.
The Oaks scored one more time in the fifth inning as Ferra led off getting hit by a pitch. With one out, Vidlund was also hit to put two runners on, and then with two outs, Lomascola got a hit to left to score Ferra for the final 12-3 tally.
