Folsom 8, Fair Oaks 6 (League: 14-6, Overall: 14-6) - June 27 @ Bella Vista High - Folsom went up 4-0 in the second inning and never looked back as the Flames defeated Fair Oaks at Bella Vista High School by a score of 8-6.
Four consecutive hits to lead off the first inning, including a home run, resulted in a 2-0 Folsom lead and the Flames added another pair of runs in the second to take a 4-0 advantage off Oaks starter Tyler Robertson.
The Oaks managed to get three runs back in the bottom of the second as catcher Joe Gaggero started things off with a one out hit to left. Consecutive walks to center fielder Steve Snider and third baseman Derek Chase loaded the bases. Shortstop Josh Thompson then hit a ball to center that was dropped allowing Gaggero to score. Snider was forced out at second, but the throw to first in an effort to get Thompson got away and he went to second with Chase advancing to third. Both Chase and Thompson scored on a double by designated hitter Mickey Weisser to make it a 4-3 game.
A leadoff Folsom hit and a one out walk in the third prompted an Oaks pitching change as Dixon Allen came to the mound. Three more runs came across the plate, however, before Allen was able to get the final two outs of the inning as Folsom extended its lead to 7-3.
The Flames got an additional run in the fourth before Fair Oaks came back to score twice in the bottom of the inning to close the score to 8-5. Leadoff walks to Gaggero and Snider and a hit to left by Chase loaded the bases with no outs. Gaggero scored on a wild pitch to Thompson and then Snider came home on a fly to center by Weisser.
The Oaks loaded the bases again in the sixth as Snider was hit by a pitch, Thompson got a hit to left and first baseman Bill Rhinehart was intentionally walked, but couldn't score bringing Fair Oaks to one final at-bat in the seventh inning.
In the seventh, third baseman A.J. Vidlund got a one out hit to center, followed by a hit to center by Gaggero. Snider then hit a ball to short that was misplayed, loading the bases. Chase followed with a hit to center that scored Vidlund from third to make it 8-6, but Gaggero was forced at third on a quick throw in for the second out. Thompson, the next batter, carried the count out to 3-2, but grounded to third and Snider was forced at the bag for the third out giving Folsom the 8-6 victory.
