July 2 - Fair Oaks 8, Yolo 6

Fair Oaks 8, Yolo 6 (League: 16-7, Overall: 16-7) - July 2 @ Bella Vista High - A two-run home run by Josh Thompson in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Fair Oaks to an 8-6 victory over Yolo at Bella Vista High School.

    The Oaks jumped on Yolo starter Jeff Woodard for four runs in the first inning as shortstop Josh Thompson led off with a double to center. He was erased on a ball by first baseman Mickey Weisser that was hit to short, with the throw going to third. Left fielder Bill Rhinehart got a hit to right and then with two outs, a hit to right by third baseman A.J. Vidlund scored Weisser to make it 1-0. Second baseman Larry Lomascola followed with a double to right center to score Rhinehart and Vidlund and then a hit to left by right fielder Matt Schirmer scored Lomascola to make it a 4-0 game.
    Oaks starting pitcher Tyler Robertson breezed through the first three innings - not allowing a base runner - but Yolo got a run in the fourth on a hit batter and a base hit with two outs.
    A leadoff home run in the fifth by first baseman Matt Long started a Yolo rally that saw Post 77 score five runs and take a 6-4 lead over the Oaks.
    Fair Oaks scored twice in the sixth to tie the game as Thompson drew a one out walk and then stole second with Weisser at the plate. Weisser grounded to first, moving Thompson to third and then Rhinehart also walked to give the Oaks runenrs at the corners.
    Designated hitter Charles Smith followed with a hit to left to score Thompson and then Vidlund doubled to left to score Rhinehart to knot the game up at 6-6.
    Dixon Allen came in to pitch the seventh for the Oaks and struck out all three Yolo batters he faced.
    In the bottom of the inning, Schirmer struck out to lead off and then catcher Joe Gaggero grounded to short for the second out of the inning. The next batter - center fielder Steve Snider - singled to right center and then Thompson blasted the ball over the left field fence to end the game and give the Oaks an 8-6 win.
