Fair Oaks 10, Manhart 5 (League: 17-7, Overall: 21-11) - July 12 @ Sacramento City College - Post 383 eliminated yet another team from the District 6 tournament with a 10-5 victory over Manhart at Sacramento City College.
As is becoming a trend in Oaks games, Post 383 found itself trailing early on as Manhart scored three times off Oaks starter Charles Smith in the first inning.
Fair Oaks got one run back in the second as catcher Joe Gaggero got a two out single to left field. Shortstop Josh Thompson followed with a ground ball to second that was thrown away to keep the inning alive and then left fielder Derek Chase followed with a hit to right to score Gaggero and make it a 3-1 game.
Manhart added another run in the third, but the Oaks battled back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning. First baseman Mickey Weisser led off with a walk and then right fielder Bill Rhinehart powered the ball over the right field fence for a home run that brought the score to 4-3.
Manhart extended its lead in the fifth with another single run, but the Oaks answered back again in the bottom of the inning as Rhinehart led off with a walk. With one out and second baseman Larry Lomascola at the plate, Rhinehart stole second. Lomascola grounded back to the pitcher for the second out, bringing third baseman A.J. Vidlund to the plate. Rhinehart then stole third, but the catcher's throw to the bag sailed into left field and Rhinehart came home to make it a 5-4 game.
Mnhart held onto the lead until the bottom of the eighth when the Oaks finally exploded, scoring six times for a 10-5 advantage.
Vidlund led off with a walk and then Gaggero doubled to right field. Vidlund scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Thompson to tie the score and then with two outs, a Snider hit to left scored Gaggero to give the Oaks a 6-5 lead.
Manhart starter Chris Palma was replaced on the mound by Janor Spencer and the Oaks rudely greeted him as Weisser hit a ball off the third baseman's glove and then Rhinehart singled to right to score Snider. A walk followed to Smith to load the bases and then Lomascola hit a ball to short that was booted allowing Weisser and Rhinehart to score to make it 9-5. The Oaks added their final run on a hit to left by Vidlund that scored Smith to give Post 383 the final 10-5 lead.
Smith worked a complete game for the Oaks, striking out five in the victory.
