First baseman Mickey Weisser takes a lead down the third base line after a fourth inning triple that gave the Oaks a 7-0 lead in their game against Manhart.
Fair Oaks 9, Manhart 5 (League: 6-2, Overall: 6-2) - June 6 @ Land Park - Fair Oaks won its fifth straight game with a 9-5 victory over Manhart at Land Park in Sacramento.
The Oaks jumped on Manhart for four first inning runs and never looked back behind a strong pitching performance by Tyler Robertson.
With one out in the first, first baseman Mickey Weisser got things started with a hit to right field. He scored as designated hitter Bill Rhinehart tripled to center and then a hit to right by right fielder Charles Smith scored Rhinehart for a 2-0 lead. Second baseman Larry Lomascola followed with a hit under the glove of the third baseman to score Smith. Lomascola advanced all the way to third as the throw back in went out of play. He then scored on a ground ball to third by left fielder Matt Schirmer to make it 4-0.
Robertson got Manhart out in order in the bottom of the inning, including two strikeouts. The Oaks added to their lead in the fourth after two were out as catcher Joe Gaggero was hit by a pitch. With shortstop Derek Chase at the plate, Gaggero stole second and then scored on a Chase hit to right. Chase advanced to second on the throw home.
Center fielder Steve Snider was then hit by a pitch and both Chase and Snider scored on a triple to right by Weisser to make it 7-0.
Manhart came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Oaks got one back in the top of the fifth for an 8-2 lead.
Smith was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and with Lomascola at the plate stole second. Lomascola struck out bringing pinch hitter A.J. Vidlund to the plate. Smith stole third and scored as the throw to third got away to make it an 8-2 game.
Manhart answered back in the bottom of the inning with a single run and despite loading the bases couldn't bring anything else across the plate.
The game remained at 8-3 until the seventh when the Oaks scored their final run of the contest. With one out, Smith got a hit down the third base line and moved to second as David Breisacher got a near identical hit past the bag. This prompted a Manhart pitching change, but an error on a fly to center by A.J. Vidlund loaded the bases for the Oaks.
Sam Ferra then hit a ball back to the pitcher. The throw came home to force Smith at the plate, but then a throw back to first to try to get Ferra got away and Breisacher scored to make it a 9-3 game.
Kris Wright came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh for the Oaks and struggled a bit as three of the first four batters he faced got hits, bringing in one run. A one out fly to right scored another run to make it 9-5, but then Wright threw a ground ball to short to end the game giving the Oaks their fifth straight victory and improving their record to 6-2.
