Trevor Lewis' third inning bases loaded triple gave the Oaks a 6-3 lead.
Fair Oaks 10, Manhart 8 (League: 9-3, Overall: 9-3) - June 24 @ Renfree Field - Fair Oaks continued to get the better of its District 6 opponents with a 10-8 win over Manhart at Renfree Field.
The Oaks went up 1-0 in the first inning as Oaks starting pitcher Ryan Stevens led off with a walk and moved to second as second baseman Kyle Richardson hit a ground ball to short. Stevens had been running on the play anyway, but Richardson found himself safe at first, as well, as the shortstop couldn't find the handle on the ball. A wild pitch with center fielder Mickey Weisser at the plate advanced both runners and Stevens scored as Weisser grounded the ball to second.
Manhart came back to take the lead in the top of the second off Stevens as they scored three runs for a 3-1 advantage, but the Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.
With two outs, catcher Joe Gaggero was hit by a pitch and moved to second on Stevens hit to left field. Then with Richardson at the plate, a wild pitch sent Gaggero to third and Stevens to second. A balk then scored Gaggero to make it 3-2 and Stevens scored as Richardson hit a ball to second. The throw to first was bad allowing Richardson to reach safely and the run to come home tying the game.
In the third inning, the Oaks scored four times to take a 7-3 lead. Weisser led off with a walk and left fielder Charles Smith reached base after being hit by a pitch. Smith was erased as first baseman Tyler Robertson wit a ball to second - with the throw going to short for the force. But then shortstop Derek Chase was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
This prompted a Manhart pitching change, but the new hurler gave up a base-clearing triple to right fielder Trevor Lewis to give the Oaks a 6-3 lead. Lewis then scored on a ground ball to short by third baseman David Breisacher to make it 7-3.
Manhart came back with a pair of runs in the fifth to close the score to 7-5, but the Oaks added another pair in the sixth for a 9-5 lead.
With one out, Weisser and Smith drew back-to-back walks and then Robertson's hit to left loaded the bases. Weisser scored on another walk to Chase, prompting another Manhart pitching change. After Lewis struck out for the inning's second out, a walk to Breisacher forced in Smith to make it 9-5.
Lewis took the mound for the Oaks in relief in the eighth, but a walk and a hit coupled with a pair of errors allowed three Manhart runs to come in as the Oaks lead shrunk to only 9-8 with one out. Lewis ended the inning, however, getting two ground balls on the infield to record the final two outs.
Post 383 got an insurance run in the bottom of the inning as Robertson got a one out double to right. Then with two outs, Robertson took off for third, but the pitch to Lewis went to the backstop and Robertson was in safely at third. Lewis then hit a ball to short that was booted allowing Robertson to score for the 10-8 lead.
Joe Burson came in to pitch the top of the ninth for the Oaks and despite a one out pop-up on the infield that dropped in, faced only three batters as the next Manhart hitter sent a double play ball short-to-second-to-first to end the game.
