Pitcher Tyler Robertson aids his own cause with a sixth inning hit to left field in the Oaks 11-3 victory over Charles Eggen. Robertson struck out the first seven batters he faced and recorded 14 strikeouts overall.
Fair Oaks 11, Charles Eggen 3 (League: 11-3, Overall: 11-3) - June 26 @ El Camino High School - The Oaks used a stellar outing from pitcher Tyler Robertson to beat Charles Eggen in the first game of a doubleheader at El Camino High School.
Robertson struck out the first seven batters he faced - 14 overall in the game - en route to the 11-3 victory.
The Oaks got on the scoreboard in the first inning as center fielder Ryan Stevens led off with a hit. Then with one out and first baseman Mickey Weisser at the plate, Stevens stole second. Weisser struck out, but the ball got away and Stevens took third. Stevens was then able to score on a wild pitch to the next batter, left fielder Charles Smith, to make it a 1-0 game.
After all three Eggen batters struck out to end the first, Fair Oaks went back to work, scoring four times in the second to take a 5-0 lead.
Shortstop Derek Chase started things off by hitting a ball to third. The throw to first was bad, however, and Chase made it all the way to second. Then with one out, third baseman David Breisacher doubled to left field to score Chase and make it 2-0.
Catcher Joe Gaggero then hit a ball to shortstop that was boobled resulting in no throw. Stevens was the next batter and got a hit to right field to load the bases. Second baseman Kyle Richardson then got a double to left center that scored Breisacher and Gaggero to make it 4-0. The final run of the inning scored as Weisser got a hit to center field to bring in Stevens and give the Oaks a 5-0 advantage.
Eggen got its first run of the game in the bottom of the third. Robertson struck out the first batter he faced - and seventh of the game - before giving up a hit to right field. A walk and another hit brought in the run to make it a 5-1 game.
The Oaks got the run back in the top of the fourth, however, as Smith hit a ball that went off the pitcher's glove and deflected to shortstop. Smith beat the throw to first and then advanced to third on a Robertson hit to right field. A throwing error on the infield then allowed Smith to score to make it 6-1.
The Oaks added another pair of runs in the sixth as Robertson got a one out hit to left to start things off. Chase followed with a hit to left, bringing the next batter - right fielder Trevor Lewis to the plate. Robertson was out trying to steal third, but was replaced on second as a bad pickoff advanced Chase from first. Lewis then hit a ball to right that was dropped, and Chase came in to score to make it 7-1 with Lewis taking second on the throw. With Breisacher at the plate, Lewis stole third. The throw by the catcher went into left field and Lewis came home to make it an 8-1 game.
Another run came home in the seventh as Stevens doubled with one out and stole third with two outs and Weisser at the plate. Weisser was hit by a pitch to put two on, and then Smith hit a ball to third that was booted and Stevens came home to score and make it a 9-1 Oaks lead.
Fair Oaks added another single run in the eighth as Lewis got a one out triple to right center. He scored on Jason Lomascola's hit to deep short, with Lomascola beating the throw to first.
Eggen answered back in the eighth as a leadoff walk, stolen base and errant throw put a runner on third. A fly ball to center then brought the run in to make it a 10-2 game.
One final run scored for each team in the ninth as Stevens had a leadoff home run to right field for the Oaks and back-to-back doubles off Chase, who replaced Robertson on the mound in the ninth, scored a run for Eggen to bring the final score to 11-3 in favor of the Oaks.
