Ryan Stevens watches a pitch go by in the dirt during the third inning of the Oaks 15-8 win over Charles Eggen at El Camino High School. Stevens earned a bases loaded walk to force in Jason Lomascola with the Oaks' sixth run of the game.
Fair Oaks 15, Charles Eggen 8 (League: 12-3, Overall: 12-3) - June 26 @ El Camino High School - Capped off by two massive home runs to left field by Charles Smith, the Oaks finished a sweep of their Saturday doubleheader with Charles Eggen with a 15-8 victory at El Camino High School.
As they did in the first game, the Oaks got on the board early with three runs scoring in the first inning. Center fielder Ryan Stevens led off with a walk, followed by second baseman Kyle Richardson getting hit by a pitch, and first baseman Mickey Weisser getting a single to left to load the bases.
Left fielder Charles Smith then hit a ball to second that was booted and Stevens came in to score to make it 1-0. Designated hitter Tyler Robertson was the next batter, hitting a ground ball to short. The throw went to second to get Smith, but the relay to first got away and both Richardson and Weisser scored to give the Oaks a 3-0 lead.
The Oaks scored another three runs in the third as Smith got a one out walk to start things off. Robertson then hit a ball to left field, but it was dropped for an error and with third baseman Jason Lomascola at the plate, a wild pitch advanced both runners. Lomascola then walked to load the bases. Another walk followed to shortstop Derek Chase to force in Smith and make it 4-0, driving Eggen's starting pitcher from the game.
The new hurler, however, gave up a hit to center field by right fielder Joe Burson to score Robertson, and then with two out, a walk to Stevens froced in Lomascola from third to make it a 6-0 lead.
Oaks starting pitcher David Breisacher got into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the third as a hit and two walks after two were out loaded the bases. Trevor Lewis took the mound and pitched two ground balls - unfortunately the first was to deep short and went for a hit allowing a run to come in to make it 6-1.
The Oaks added another run in the fourth, however, as walks to Weisser, Robertson and Lomascola loaded the bases with one out. Chase then lined the ball to short, with the throw going to first to try to double Lomascola off and end the inning. But the throw got away and Weisser scored to make it a 7-1 Oaks lead.
An error, two walks and a hit brought in two more Eggen runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 7-3, but again the Oaks answered back with six runs in the fifth to take a commanding 13-3 lead.
Catcher Joe Gaggero led off with a triple to left field, followed by a walk to Stevens. A Richardson hit to left then scored Gaggero to make it 8-3. Weisser followed with a ground rule double to right that scored Stevens and Richardson to give the Oaks a 10-3 advantage. Smith followed with a towering home run to left field to score Weisser and himself to up the lead to 12-3 and force an Eggen pitching change. The new hurler put two more runners on with a walk to Robertson and an error in the outfield on a fly by Lomascola before recording the first two outs of the inning. But then a hit to left by Gaggero scored Lomascola to give the Oaks a 13-3 lead.
Burson took the mound in the fifth for the Oaks, getting an out from the first batter he faced. But then a walk, hit and hit batter loaded the bases. Another hit brought home two rund and a home run scored three as Eggen closed the gap to 13-8.
The Oaks came right back to score again, however, as two more runs came home in the top of the sixth to expand their lead back to seven at 15-8.
A hit to right by Richardson started things off, followed by another home run by Smith to bring both runs in and make it 15-8.
Brent Fuhrman pitched the rest of the game for Fair Oaks, effectively shutting Eggen down and carrying the Oaks to the win.
