Mickey Weisser takes a lead off second with Yolo shortstop Sean Shoffit in the background during the first inning of the Oaks game against Post 77 in Woodland. Weisser walked to get on and advanced to second on a ground ball hit by Charles Smith that went for an error.
Yolo 11, Fair Oaks 1 (League: 14-4, Overall: 14-4) - June 29 @ Clark Field, Woodland - Fair Oaks visited Woodland's Clark Field hoping for a repeat of its season-opening 6-4 win over Yolo. But it wasn't to be. Yolo Post 77 dominated the Oaks, beating Post 383 11-1 - Yolo's third win in four tries over the Fair Oaks team.     Yolo scored twice in the first and used a home run by left fielder Jeff Hoppin in the third to tkae a 3-0 lead over the Oaks. Hoppin went on to go 5x5 in the game, including three singles, a double and the round-tripper.
Fair Oaks, playing its 10th game in nine days, looked flat the entire contest, but finally scored its first - and only - run of the game in the top of the fifth.
Catcher Joe Gaggero led off with a hit to center, but was erased on center fielder Ryan Stevens' ground ball to second. The throw went to the shortstop covering for the out, but Stevens beat the relay to first. Second baseman Kyle Richardson then hit a slow bouncer to the left side of the infield that moved Stevens over. Richardson reached first safely as neither the shortstop or pitcher could get to the ball in time. With pitcher Charles Smith at the plate, Stevens and Richardson performed a double steal to put runners on second and third. A wild pitch then allowed Stevens to come home to make it a 3-1 game.
Yolo came back with another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of hits and a triple to take a 5-1 lead and drive Smith off the mound. Stevens replaced him as Post 383's pitcher, but he also ran into trouble as he gave up another pair of runs in the sixth.
Fair Oaks managed only three more base runners the rest of the way while Yolo added three more runs in the eighth before Fair Oaks sent Trevor Lewis to the mound with no outs. Lewis got two quick outs, but then a wild pitch brought in another run for an 11-1 Yolo lead.
The Oaks went down quietly in the ninth despite getting a leadoff base runner as third baseman Jason Lomascola reached via an error. Three straight outs followed, however, as the Oaks went down to only their fourth defeat of the season, 11-1.
