Charles Smith slams a triple in the sixth inning of the Oaks game against Charles Eggen. Fair Oaks won the game 12-2.
Fair Oaks 12, Charles Eggen 2 (League: 15-4, Overall: 15-4) - June 30 @ Bella Vista High School - Fair Oaks rebounded from its 11-1 loss to Yolo the previous night with a 12-2 win over Charles Eggen at Bella Vista High School.
The Oaks, playing their 11th game in as many days, got on the scoreboard in the second inning as shortstop Derek Chase led off with a double to left field. Designated hitter Trevor Lewis' fly to center advanced Chase to third and he scored as catcher Joe Gaggero hit a ground ball to short.
Post 383 added another run in the third as left fielder Charles Smith led off with a double to center. First baseman Tyler Robertson moved Smith to third with a grounder to first and then third baseman Jason Lomascola's hit to left scored Smith for a 2-0 lead.
Two more runs crossed the plate in the fourth after two were out as second baseman Kyle Richardson hit a ball to deep short and beat the throw to first for a hit. Center fielder Mickey Weisser then sent a home run over the right center field fence to make it a 4-0 game.
The Oaks brought in run No. 5 in the fifth as Robertson hit a ball down the first base line that the pitcher fielded, but couldn't make a play to first on. Lomascola then hit a ground rule double to left center and right fielder Joe Burson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Chase's fly to center then allowed Robertson to tag from third and score to make it 5-0.
Post 383 made it 7-0 in the sixth as Richardson led off with a hit to left. With Weisser at the plate, Richardson stole second. Weisser struck out, but then Smith tripled to score Richardson to make it 6-0. Robertson then flew to right allowing Smith to score from third and amke it a 7-0 Oaks lead.
Pitcher Brent Fuhrman continued to dominate Charles Eggen, allowing only three base runners through the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Oaks struck again scoring five times for a 12-0 lead.
Burson led off with a double and Chase followed with a ball to third that was booted. Burson scored on Lewis' hit to right, with Chase advancing to third. Chase scored on a Gaggero fly to center to make it 9-0 and then Richardson followed with a hit to left field. A walk to Weisser loaded the bases and another walk to Smith forced in Lewis with the Oaks' 10th run of the game. Two more runs came home on a hit to left by Robertson to make it a 12-0 game.
Two walks and a hit in the top of the eighth finally brought in a run for Eggen. Another hit loaded the bases, but then Fuhrman struck out the next batter and got a come-backer to the mound for the second out of the inning. A walk, however, forced in another run to make it 12-2 before Fuhrman got a ground ball to get out of the inning.
The Oaks didn't score in the bottom of the eighth and Robertson took the mound in the top of the ninth in relief of Fuhrman. Despite hitting the first batter he faced, Robertson faced only three Eggen hitters as the Oaks cruised to the victory.
