Fair Oaks manager Don Barney (24), pitcher Brent Fuhrman (28) and the rest of the Oaks infield discuss strategy in the fourth inning of Post 383's game against Galt.
Galt 4, Fair Oaks 3 (League: 16-4, Overall: 17-5) - July 10 @ Sacramento City College - Despite the close score, Galt pretty much dominated Fair Oaks in a second-round 4-3 win in the District 6 playoffs at Sacramento City College.
The Oaks managed only four hits off Galt starter Zachary Phillips, who pitched a complete game and struck out 16 Oaks batters.     Galt scored one run off Oaks starter Brent Fuhrman in the first inning, with Fair Oaks coming back in the second to tie the game at 1-1.
First baseman Tyler Robertson led off the second with a double to left field and with shortstop Derek Chase Chase at the plate advanced to third on a wild pitch. Chase struck out, but Robertson scored on a ground ball to short by the next batter - designated hitter Kyle Richardson.
Fair Oaks took its only lead of the game in the next inning as center fielder Mickey Weisser led off with a double to right field. He took third as left fielder Charles Smith hit a ball to second, with the throw going to first for the out. Then with third baseman Jason Lomascola at the plate Weisser scored on a third strike that got away from Galt catcher Justin Quarisa to make it a 2-1 game.
Galt came back in the top of the fourth to retake the lead at 4-2. After Fuhrman got two quick outs, a single and hit batsman put two runners on. First baseman Theodore Herrera then doubled to center to bring home two runs and a hit by center fielder Casey Weathers scored Herrera to amke it a 4-2 game.
The Oaks closed the score to 4-3 in the fifth as right fielder Joe Burson flew to right to lead off the inning. The ball was dropped, however, and Burson was safe. Weisser then got a hit to left. Burson tried for third, but was thrown out. Weisser was able to take second on the throw, however. With Smith at the plate, a passed ball sent Weisser to third and he scored on Smith's fly to left for a 4-3 game.
Smith, who came in to relieve Fuhrman on the mound in the top of the inning, shut down Galt the rest of the way. But Galt's Phillips allowed only two walks over the final four innings and struck out 10 of the 14 batters he faced to preserve the victory for Galt.
