Mickey Weisser waits for the pitch in Fair Oaks' second game against Galt on July 11. The Oaks won 15-0 to advance to the District 6 championship series.
Fair Oaks 15, Galt 0 (League: 16-4, Overall: 20-5) - July 11 @ Sacramento City College - Fair Oaks took another step toward the District 6 championship Sunday night as the Oaks blasted Galt 15-0 to advance to the July 15-16 championship series against Yolo.
The Oaks had already beaten Galt in an earlier game and needed a sweep to avoid being eiliminated. Charles Smith, who came in to pitch in the seventh inning of the first game, started the second contest, holding Galt hitless until he was replaced by Joe Burson with two out in the fourth.
The Oaks tallied five runs in the first inning as second baseman Chris Rinaudo led off with a double to left field. Left fielder Kyle Richardson then put down a perfect bunt to the left of the pitcher's mound for a hit and center fielder Mickey Weisser walked to load the bases. First baseman Tyler Robertson's hit to right scored Rinaudo and Richardson for a 2-0 lead. The next batter, Smith, sent a fly to right that allowed Weisser to tag and move to third. He then scored on a wild pitch with third baseman Jason Lomascola at the plate. Lomascola struck out, but then a hit up the middle by shortstop Derek Chase scored Robertson to make it 4-0. Burson folowed with a hit to center and catcher Joe Gaggero's hit to right scored Chase to make it a 5-0 game.
The Oaks scored four more runs in the fourth as Rinaudo hit a ball to second. The throw to first was low and got away. Richardson then bunted to third and again the throw was bad and both runners were safe. A double by Weisser scored both runners to make it 7-0. Weisser tried for third on the play, but was thrown out. With two outs, Smith got a hit to right center and scored as Lomascola hit a ball down the left field line for a double. Chase followed with another double, scoring Lomascola to give the Oaks a 9-0 lead.
Galt finally got its first hit of the game with two out in the fifth, but couldn't bring the runner home. The Oaks meanwhile came back to score another three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Gaggero started things off with a hit to right and scored on a double to left by Rinaudo. With one out, Weisser singled to left scoring Rinaudo and then Robertson followed with a single to send Weisser to second. He scored on Smith's hit to left to make it a 12-0 game.
The Oaks scored their final three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Burson led off with a walk. With one out, a triple to left by Rinaudo scored Burson and then Rinaudo scored on a double to left by Richardson. Weisser followed with a hit to left, sending Richardson to third and he scored on a ground ball to second by Robertson to give the Oaks a 15-0 advantage.
The game ended due to the tournament's 10-Run Rule after Galt failed to score in the top of the seventh - with Fair Oaks taking the 15-0 victory and a berth in the following week's championship series against Yolo.
