Fair Oaks' Kyle Richardson leads off first base after a sixth inning leadoff walk against Yolo. Yolo went on to win the game 8-3.
Yolo 8, Fair Oaks 3 (League: 16-4, Overall: 20-7) - July 16 @ Renfree Field, Sacramento - Yolo Post 77 claimed the District 6 title for the second straight year with an 8-3 victory over Fair Oaks at Renfree Field Friday night.
Post 77 scored single runs in the first and third innings and added another three in the fourth off Oaks starter Charles Smith before Smith was replaced on the mound by Brent Fuhrman.
Yolo starter Brian Parker stymied the Oaks into the seventh inning as Post 383 only had a third inning double by left fielder Kyle Richardson to show for their efforts.
In the seventh the Oaks finally scored a pair of runs as catcher Joe Gaggero and second baseman Chris Rinaudo drew back-to-back walks. After two were out, a hit to left center by center fielder Mickey Weisser scored Gaggero and then a smash to third that got by the third baseman by Oaks first baseman Tyler Robertson scored Rinaudo to make it a 5-2 game.
As it happened in the game the day before, miscues played a part in the game getting away from the Oaks as Yolo upped its lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh.
Fuhrman struck out Yolo's Jeff Hoppin to start the inning, but then a throwing error from second allowed the next batter - Greg Finazzo - to reach base. Yolo first baseman Bobby Sunderland then hit a ball foul down the first base line. Robertson appeared to give up on the ball thinking it would stay foul, but then it kicked back into play and Sunderland was safe. Sean Shoffit then hit a triple to left center to score both runners and then he also scored on a Evan Zimny hit to left center to make it an 8-2 game.
Andrew Morgan came in to pitch the eighth for Yolo and the Oaks scored their third run of the game off the new hurler. Third baseman Jason Lomascola led off with a ball to short that was bobbled allowing him to reach first safely. Right fielder Jow Burson then got a hit down the left field line and shortstop Derek Chase followed with a hit to left that scored Lomascola to close the gap to 8-3.
Dustin Aimes took the mound for Fair Oaks in the bottom of the eighth, shutting Yolo down -- but the Oaks came back in the top of the ninth and went out quietly in order to end the game and give Yolo the 8-3 victory.
