Chris Rinaudo fouls off a sixth inning pitch in the Oaks Area 1 playoff game against B&L Properties. Rinaudo eventually got a hit up the middle. The Oaks won the game 8-0.
Fair Oaks 8, B&L Properties 0 (League: 16-4, Overall: 21-7) - July 21 @ Clark Field, Woodland - Fair Oaks opened Area 1 play with a big victory over B&L Properties of Fairfield as the Oaks used a complete-game shutout from Tyler Robertson to win 8-0.
The Oaks took a 1-0 lead off B&L starter Evan Massey as second baseman Chris Rinaudo led off with a hit up the middle. A walk to center fielder Ryan Stevens put two runners on, and then with one out a hit to right by pitcher Tyler Robertson loaded the bases. Left fielder Charles Smith then sent a fly to left that allowed Rinaudo to tag and score and make it a 1-0 game.
Fair Oaks added three more runs in the fifth as Rinaudo again led off with a hit up the middle. Stevens then doubled over the right fielder's head to score Rinaudo and make it 2-0. Post 383 doubled its lead with one stroke of the bat as the next batter, first baseman Mickey Weisser, belted a home run over the right field fence to make it a 4-0 lead for the Oaks.
Post 383 had another big inning in the eighth off a new B&L pitcher, scoring four times for an 8-0 lead.
Right fielder Joe Burson started things off as he hit a smash to third that took a bad hop in front of the third baseman and skipped on out to left field. Shortstop Derek Chase then doubled off the left field fence, sending Burson to third, and he scored on a ground ball to short by catcher Joe Gaggero. Rinaudo then got a hit to center field to score Chase and Stevens doubled for the third time in the game to score Rinaudo and make it 7-0. The next batter, Weisser, almost had his second home run of the game as he hit a towering shot to right field, but the ball was ruled foul and Weisser had to settle for a ground out to short. With Robertson at the plate, a wild pitch brought Stevens home giving the Oaks their final run of the game at 8-0.
Robertson, who recorded 10 strikeouts in the game, gave up a one out double in the top of the ninth, but B&L couldn't bring the run home as he retired the next two batters to preserve the shutout and the Oaks first-round win.
