Galt's Dustin Peasha slides into second as Oaks second baseman Chris Rinaudo tries to make the tag during the fourth inning of Fair Oaks' June 11 game against Galt. The Oaks won the contest 4-3.
Fair Oaks 4, Galt 3 (League: 3-2, Overall: 3-2) - June 11 @ Bella Vista High School - After trailing the entire contest, Fair Oaks scored twice in the final inning to snatch a victory away from previously unbeaten Galt, 4-3, at Bella Vista High School.
The Oaks loaded the bases in the bottom of the second with no outs, but were unable to score as first baseman Trevor Lewis and shortstop Derek Chase struck out and catcher Joe Gaggero popped out to second.
Galt scored its first run in the top of the third after two were out off Oaks starter Charles Smith and then added two more runs in the fourth after a leadoff hit put a runner on and Sean Mooney belted a two run homer over the left field fence.
Dustin Aimes came in to relieve Smith and got out of the inning with no further runs scoring.
In the Oaks' half of the fourth, the game was put under protest as Galt pitcher Zach Phillips made a move toward first, but didn't complete it. Oaks manager Don Barney cried balk, but the home plate umpire said time had been called - although he apparently didn't bother giving any indication that it had been.
The Oaks failed to score in the fourth, as did the Lions in the fifth and Fair Oaks faced a new pitcher in the bottom of the inning as Phillip Sidner took the mound.
After getting the first two batters on a strikeout and fly to left, consecutive walks to third baseman Jason Lomascola, Aimes, and right fielder Mickey Weisser loaded the bases.
This prompted yet another pitching change as Matt Brunswick took the mound. He immediately gave up a hit to center by left fielder Steve Rinaudo to bring home Lomascola and Aimes and make it a 3-2 game. Second baseman Chris Rinaudo followed with a shot to short that was too hot to handle, reloading the bases, but the next batter struck out to end the inning.
Aimes put Galt down in order in the top of the sixth and the Oaks came back to almost tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
Shortstop Derek Chase led off with a hit to left and was bunted over to second by Gaggero. Casey Weathers then took the mound for Galt to face Oaks center fielder Ryan Casey. On a 1-1 count, the next pitch got away from catcher Dustin Peasha and Chase went to third. Weathers got Casey to ground to short and Chase tried to score. But rather than the throw going to first, it came home just in time to get a sliding Chase at the plate and prevent the Oaks from tying the game.
Brent Fuhrman took the mound for the Oaks in the top of the seventh and sent Galt down in order and the Oaks came to bat with one last chance to either tie or win the game.
With one out consecutive walks to Weisser and Steve Rinaudo put two on. A wild pitch with Chris Rinaudo at the plate moved both runners over. Rinaudo then sent a ball just fair off the third baseman's glove to score both runners and give the Oaks a come-from-behind 4-3 victory.
