Kyle Richardson takes a lead off second base after an eighth inning bunt by Joe Gaggero moved him over from first. Richardson went in to run for Trevor Lewis who walked to lead off the inning in the Oaks 7-4 win over Manhart.
Fair Oaks 7, Manhart 4 (League: 4-2, Overall: 4-2) - June 15 @ Renfree Field - After dueling to a 3-3 tie through the sixth inning, Fair Oaks used a single run in the seventh and three in the eighth to edge away from Manhart for a 7-4 victory in District 6 Legion action at Renfree Field.
The Oaks staked starting pitcher Mickey Weisser to a 1-0 lead in the second inning as right fielder Steve Rinaudo led off with a walk. With one out and shortstop Derek Chase at the plate, Rinaudo stole second. Chase then doubled to left center to score Rinaudo and make it a 1-0 game.
Manhart went ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning as Weisser gave up three consecutive hits - including two doubles - but the Oaks battled back in the fifth to retake the lead at 3-2 with a pair of runs of their own.
With one out, consecutive walks to first baseman Trevor Lewis and catcher Joe Gaggero, followed by a hit to center by center fielder Ryan Stevens loaded the bases for the Oaks. Left fielder Charles Smith then drove in Lewis and Gaggero with a hit to right field to make it a 3-2 contest and drive Manhart's starting pitcher out of the game.
The Oaks again threatened in the sixth as Steve Rinaudo walked and Chris Rinaudo got a hit to right to start things off. Chase and Lewis both struck out for two outs - then a walk to Gaggero loaded the bases. But a groundout by Stevens ended the inning with no runs scoring.
Manhart came back to score a single run in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3 and threatened to score more, but the Oaks avoided giving up the lead as a Weisser pitchout to Gaggero caught a Manhart runner charging from third to end the inning and keep the game tied.
Post 383 came back in the seventh for a single run to go up 4-3 as third baseman Jason Lomascola led off with a walk. He was erased as Smith hit a ball to third, with the throw going to second. But then with Weisser at the plate, Smith stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch scored Smith to make it 4-3. A walk to Weisser, hit by Steve Rinaudo and walk to Chris Rinaudo loaded the bases again and forced another Manhart pitching change, but the Oaks failed to bring any more runs across the plate.
Fair Oaks padded its lead in the eighth as Lewis led off with a walk. Kyle Richardson went in to run at first and was moved to second on a bunt by Gaggero. Stevens walked and then with Lomascola at the plate, Richardson stole third. The throw by the catcher to try to get Richardson went into left field and Richardson scored to make it 5-3. Lomascola then got a hit to left to advance Stevens to third - Stevens had previously taken second on the errant throw by Manhart's catcher. With Smith at the plate, a passed ball scored Stevens and then Smith's hit by short scored Lomascola to make it a 7-3 game.
Dustin Aimes took the mound in the eighth for the Oaks and got off to a bit of a shaky start with two hits and a walk scoring a run to make it a 7-4 game.
But that would be the last either team scored as the Oaks held on for a 7-4 victory over Manhart.
