Mickey Weisser prepares to slam a hit to center field in the fourth inning of the Oaks game against Galt June 21.
Fair Oaks 8, Galt 0 (League: 6-3, Overall: 6-3) - June 21 @ Galt High School - Tyler Robertson pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout as Post 383 defeated Galt 8-0 at Galt High School.
The game was a pitcher's duel early on as the only offense through the first three innings was a one out walk to Fair Oaks' Chris Rinaudo in the second inning.
Finally in the top of the fourth the Oaks broke through as first baseman Mickey Weisser got a two out hit to center field. With Weisser running and Rinaudo at the plate, a hit to right field sent Weisser to third. A low pitch that got away from the catcher with right fielder Steve Rinaudo at the plate allowed Weisser to score to make it a 1-0 game.
The Oaks added two more runs in the fifth as shortstop Derek Chase led off with a walk. With catcher Joe Gaggero at the plate, Chase stole second. Gaggero flew out, followed by a pop to short by center fielder Ryan Stevens. Chase stole third with third baseman Jason Lomascola at the plate. Lomascola walked and then with left fielder Charles Smith at the plate, a pitch in the dirt again got away from Galt's catcher allowing Chase to score for a 2-0 lead. Smith then doubled to center field to score Lomascola and give the Oaks a 3-0 lead.
Post 383 scored another pair of runs in the seventh off a new Galt pitcher as Gaggero was hit by a pitch with one out. He moved to third on a Stevens hit to left, with Stevens taking second on the throw in to third. Then, with two outs, Smith doubled to right field to score both runners for a 5-0 lead. The inning ended, hoever, with Smith trying to stretch his two-bagger into a triple.
Two more runs scored in the eighth as Weisser led off with a walk and moved to third on a double to left by Chris Rinaudo. Weisser scored on a sacrifice to center by Steve Rinaudo and then Chris Rinaudo scored on a hit to left by Robertson for a 7-0 lead.
The Oaks added one more in the ninth as Stevens led off with a walk. He moved to second on a ground out by Trevor Lewis and then took third on a wild pitch with Smith at the plate. Smith's hit to center scored Stevens to give the Oaks an 8-0 lead.
Robertson sent Galt down in order in the bottom of the ninth, including his 10th strikeout of the game, to give the Oaks the shut out victory.
