Post 383 News
2004 LEGION PAGE -
This is the 2004 edition of the Fair Oaks Post 383 American Legion
baseball web page. The 2004 season marked the 15th year that we covered
the Fair Oaks team. It all started way back in the 1990
season when I began covering them for The
Orangevale News. The information below reflects the 2004
District 6 American Legion season.
FROM CARROLL RICE,
2ND VICE COMMANDER - Be advised that the officers and Legionnaires
of Fair Oaks American Legion Post 383 are proud of efforts of the
"Oaks" during 2004. The team is a shining example of what American
Legion Baseball is intended to be, and we wish them the best in the
future!
JR. LEGION NEWS - On
a brighter sidenote to the end of the season, the Jr. Legion F.O. Rams
finished 3rd in the Area Playoffs with 3 wins and 2 losses. They lost
close games to Benicia 7-6 and Chico 6-4 (who played for the
championship) to just miss going to State.
LOS ALAMITOS WINS STATE
TITLE - Los Alamitos, which narrowly beat Fair Oaks 5-4 on Sunday,
took home the American Legion State Title Tuesday with a 15-4 win over
Chino. The game only went seven innings due to the tournament's 10-Run
Rule.
FAIR OAKS OUT OF STATE
TOURNAMENT - Despite a leadoff double by Mickey Weisser in the
ninth inning, Fair Oaks couldn't bring the tying or go ahead runs home
against Los Alamitos Sunday afternoon and fell to the Area 4 champs 5-4
at Borman Field in Yountville. With Charles Smith at the plate and one
out, a wild pitch sent Weisser to third. Smith walked and later stole
second, but neither of the next two batters could move the runners and
the Oaks were eliminated from the tournament. Despite the loss, the
Oaks have nothing to hang their heads at. Post 383 played exceptional
ball this season and should be proud of their accomplishments.
POST 383 DROPS OPENER
- Fair Oaks Post 383 dropped its State Playoff opener to Merced by a
score of 8-4 at the Veteran's Home in Yountville, California. The Oaks
will next face Los Alamitos on Sunday in a 12 p.m. contest. Los
Alamitos was a 7-3 winner over Chino in the first round.
OAKS WIN AREA 1 TITLE
(AGAIN) - Fair Oaks beat Chico today at Renfree Field by a score of
9-4 to claim the Area 1 Championship (again). The Oaks were awarded the
title on Sunday when it was determined that Novato, whom the Oaks were
playing for the championship, had used an illegal player. Officials
then reversed themselves and ordered the extra playoff game against
Chico, who had been eliminated in a previous game by Novato. Fair Oaks
now advances to the State Championship at Yountville with a 3 p.m. game
against Merced on Saturday.
