Fair Oaks 10, Folsom 3 (League: 11-1, Overall: 11-1) - June 23 @ Folsom High School - Fair Oaks extracted a measure of revenge for their loss the previous day with a 10-3 victory over the Folsom Flames at Folsom High School.
Despite Folsom loading the bases in the first inning off starting pitcher Kyle Richardson, the Flames did not score and the game remained knotted up at 0-0 until the top of the fourth when Fair Oaks got on the board with a single run.
With two outs, second baseman Steve Rinaudo doubled to center field and then scored as the next batter - third baseman Austin Morgan - hit a "double" to short right field. The ball dropped in amongst a converging trio made up of the right fielder and first and second basemen.
The Oaks held onto their one run lead until the sixth when three more runs scored to give Post 383 a 4-0 advantage. Center fielder Ryan Stevens led off with a double and with Richardson at the plate was balked to second. Richardson then came through with a hit to left to score Stevens and make it 2-0. Right fielder Mickey Weisser picked up the next two runs as he belted a home run over the right field fence to make it a 4-0 game.
With one out in the bottom of the inning, a walk gave Folsom a base runner. He was eliminated on a steal attempt, but then another walk and a pair of hits led to Folsom's first two runs of the game, bringing the scoe to 4-2. Two more walks loaded the bases and drove Richardson off the mound in favor of Robert Butler. Butler struck out the next batter to end the inning and preserve the Oaks lead.
Fair Oaks came back in the seventh to score six more runs and take a commanding 10-2 lead over the Flames. Shortstop Chris Dennison led off with a hit to left and scored on a Stevens double to right. Richardson, who had moved to left field after Butler replaced him on the mound, bunted to third for a hit and then Weisser was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
A Rinaudo hit to left scored Stevens and Richardson to make it 7-2 and then a Morgan double to left scored Weisser to bring the score to 8-2. First baseman Tyler Robertson walked to load the bases and prompt a Folsom pitching change. The new hurler struck out Butler for the first out of the inning. The ball got away from the catcher and Rinaudo tried scoring, but was out at the plate for the second out. Catcher Joe Holguin then got a hit to right to score Morgan and Robertson and give the Oaks their 10-2 lead.
Folsom loaded the bases in the ninth inning with two outs and managed to push a run across with a walk. But Butler got the next batter to fly to center field and end the game giving the Oaks the 10-3 victory.
Both Stevens and Morgan had three doubles in the game and the Oaks collected seven overall. In 11 at-bats over the last two games, Morgan has collected eight hits including a home run and four doubles.
