Fair Oaks 2, Charles Eggen 1 (League: 15-1, Overall: 15-1) - June 27 @ Bella Vista High School - Steve Rinaudo and Andrew Leduc combined to pitch a three-hitter as Fair Oaks beat Charles Eggen 2-1 June 27 at Bella Vista High School.
Rinaudo put Eggen down in order over the first three innings before a base hit spoiled his perfect game. The Oaks came back in the bottom of the inning, however, to take a 2-0 lead as Rinaudo led off the inning with a hit up the middle.
With third baseman Austin Morgan at the plate, a pitch in the dirst sent Rinaudo to second and he scored as Morgan doubled into left field for a 1-0 lead. Left fielder Jason Lomascola followed with a sharply hit ball to short. Eggen's shortstop knocked the ball down, but was unable to make a throw. Morgan advanced to third on the play.
Catcher Joe Holguin then sent a fly to center that scored Morgan to give the Oaks their 2-0 lead.
Eggen went down in order in the fifth and sixth before mounting a rally in the seventh when they scored their only run of the game. Rinaudo started off the inning well, sandwiching a pair of strikeouts with a walk. But an errant pickoff sent the runner to second and he scored on a double to right to make it a 2-1 game. Rinaudo struck out the next batter, however, to end the inning.
Leduc came in to pitch the eighth and the ninth innings for Fair Oaks, giving up a hit and a pair of walks, but Eggen never really threatened the Oaks' lead and Post 383 recorded the win to improve their record to 15-1.
Eggen had been in second place in District 6, but four straight losses, coupled with wins by Yolo and Folsom re-shuffled the standings, pushing Eggen into fifth place and elevating Yolo and Folsom into second and third respectively.
