Fair Oaks 7, Charles Eggen 2 (League: 16-1, Overall: 16-1) - June 28 @ Bella Vista High School - Fair Oaks completed its series sweep of Charles Eggen with a 7-2 victory at Bella Vista High School June 28.
The Oaks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as center fielder Ryan Stevens ran the count to 3-2 before blasting a solo home run over the right field fence.
Post 383 added four more runs in the second as left fielder Kyle Richardson led off with a hit to right followed by a double to left by shortstop Chris Dennison. With one out, right fielder Nikolai Rowe got a hit to left to score both Richardson and Dennison. Rowe made it into second on the throw home.
With two outs, Stevens hit his second home run of the game scoring Rowe ahead of himself to give the Oaks a 5-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Trevor Lewis struggled a bit through the first three innings as Eggen loaded the bases in each of those innings. Lewis got a strikeout to end the first; a pop to second to end the second; and a ground ball to second to end the third - escaping each time with no runs scoring.
The Oaks added another run in the bottom of the third - and almost a second - as first baseman Mickey Weisser led off with a double. With one out, Richardson got a hit to center to score Weisser and make it a 6-0 game. The ball got away from the center fielder and Richardson advanced to second. Dennison then sent a fly to right that allowed Richardson to tag and move to third. Charles Eggen claimed that Richardson left the bag too early and threw the ball to second on the appeal, but the baseball got away and Richardson came home to score.
But after the ball was recovered and thrown back to second, the umpire ruled Richardson was out and the inning ended without the run scoring.
Eggen finally got on the board in the top of the fourth as an Oaks defensive lapse turned into two runs. A hit batsman with one out put a runner on. He was erased on a near double play, but Eggen still had a runner on base. A passed ball advanced the runner to second and then a walk put two Eggen runners on base. Both advanced on a pitch in the dirt and then a balk call scored Eggen's first run of the game. The next batter hit a ball to short that was booted and the second runner came in to score to make it 6-2.
The Oaks came right back, however, to score their seventh and final run as third baseman Jason Lomascola hit a leadoff home run to left to start off the bottom of the fourth. Rowe followed with a walk and second baseman Ryan Appledorn got a hit up the middle to drive Eggen's starting pitcher out of the game. The new hurler struck out the first two batters he faced - Stevens and pinch hitter Tyler Robertson - before giving up a walk to Weisser. But catcher Austin Morgan popped out to first to end the inning with no further runs scoring.
Brian Garber came in to pitch in the fifth and shut down Eggen the rest of the way. Eggen did load the bases in the top of the seventh on a hit, error and walk, but Garber got the next two batters on a pop to second and fly to left to end the game.
