Fair Oaks 4, Yolo 2 (League: 16-1, Overall: 21-2) - July 4 @ Laurel Creek Park, Fairfield, CA - Fair Oaks broke open a scoreless tie in the fourth inning en route to a 4-2 victory over Yolo Post 77 July 4 to claim the Western Amateur Baseball Federation Tournament Championship in Fairfield.
Oaks starter Tyler Robertson dueled Yolo's Ethan Guevin evenly over the first three innings with both teams finally breaking through in the fourth.
Fair Oaks, playing the visitor in its sixth straight game struck first, as first baseman Mickey Weisser led off the fourth with a hit to right field. Third baseman Austin Morgan followed with a ground ball to short. Morgan beat the throw to first, however, and then center fielder Ryan Stevens walked to load the bases.
Shortstop Chris Dennison brought in both Weisser and Morgan with a double to left field to give the Oaks a 2-0 lead.
The next batter, catcher Joe Holguin, walked to re-load the bases and then with one out, designated hitter Ryan Appledorn sent a sacrifice fly to right to score Stevens and make it a 3-0 game.
In the bottom of the inning, Robertson walked three of the first five batters he faced to load the bases, sandwiching a fly out to center and a strikeout between those. Then Yolo third baseman Kevin Johnson got a hit to center field to score teammates Scott Heinig and Evan Zimmey to make it a 3-2 game. The next batter,  Yolo second baseman Salvador Hernandez, ran the count out to 3-2 before Robertson struck him out to end the inning.
Fair Oaks' Brian Garber took the mound in the fifth inning for the Oaks, putting Yolo down in order with three fly balls to the outfield. The Oaks came back in the top of the sixth to score their final run and take a 4-2 lead over Post 77.
Dennison led off the inning with a walk prompting a Yolo pitching change as Matthew Redford took the mound for Yolo. But Redford walked the first batter he faced, Holguin, and the next batter - Nikolai Rowe - advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher. Appledorn followed with a hit to left field to score Dennison to give the Oaks a 4-2 lead.
Yolo went out in order in the bottom of the sixth and despite a leadoff double in the seventh, Butler put down the next three batters to preserve the win and give the Oaks the 2005 WABF Championship.
Fair Oaks' Steve Rinaudo was named as the 2005 WABF Tournament MVP. Named to the All-Tournament team were Mickey Weisser, Ryan Stevens and Tyler Robertson.
